I encourage people to visit with parents and babies before making a decision because it's an important part of seeing if this is going to be a good fit. They are not allowed to wander the property because as others point out there is no knowing what might be on their shoes. They must put shoe covers on, which can be purchased through any vet supply company. I will allow them to play with mom and puppies and ask any questions but only with an appointment so I can give them my undivided attention. |

In this day and age it is dangerous to bring people to your home when offering anything for sale. My son was selling his car and I was outside with one of my little ones. He had talked to this person for months and had even gone to school with them. Needless to say the person (s) that came with him were not part of the meeting of the car. I was at work and my other son was at home these individuals did not know he was not working and a vehicle was not in the drive. They went to calling my babies to the window and was trying to take the screens off. Mind you I live in the City of a rural town. No way do I allow anyone to meet at my home for any thing else. Just because you have developed a relationship with someone and you feel comfortable doesn't mean they are underhanded and deceptiv. The perspective parents of the puppies someone is selling could mention your information to another party that is not so honest and could in turn steal your babies by scoping your home out. To many problems with people taking from others what is not theirs. |
Allowing people to visit your home A couple of years ago I was run through the mill on here for my stance on this but in this day and age, it has not changed. I rarely breed and I started in rescue so maybe this colors my way of doing things. When someone initially contacts me I spend a lot of time talking to them. If during several phone conversations, it appears that they may be a serious candidate for a dog from me, I arrange to do a home visit. I also check vet references. If the home visit goes well and I do agree to sell or place a dog, I will then allow them to come to my home. It is after all my home and the home of my dogs and family and I am not open to every Tom, Dick and Jane traipsing through and compromising my security. The YTCA would never require any member to do anything that they felt was unsafe for the member or the dogs. Everyone has to do what they believe to be the right thing. |
Thanks for the continued honest and thoughtful responses. It really helps to read such clear explanations as to why everyone believes what they do. Thanks. |
