Possible growth spurt? Is it possible for a pup who weighed 4.8 lbs at 11 months to grow into a 10 lb adult 3 years later? I ask because I lost my yorkie at 11 months in 2008 and still keep an eye out for her. Recently I looked at a "found" dog that matches info about her and looks like her in every way except for her size. If it weren't for the size discrepancey, I would swear it is her. Is this possible? Looks like she was bred by backyard breeders. Would that contribute? |
As a pet owner, I was sure (and so was the breeder...) that my yorkie would be around the 6-7lb mark. She hovered right around there for the longest time, but now at 1 1/2 years old she is well over it. So, as a layperson, I'd say it's definately possible, but hopefully a knowledgeable breeder will see your post & respond with their opinion. |
Growth Spurt Yes that is definitely possible. They usually retain some baby fat after delivery. Just like most women do. Occasionally I will have a mama get back to her original weight but as a rule they are bigger after weaning their litter. |
