Shipping Question.. I would like to know from those that imported before. Does the weather or temp make a difference when shipping a puppy from one country to another? Is there a freeze period like NOW that puppies can't be shipped from another country? Irene |
Shipping import.. Irene, I cannot tell you.. I have always imported in the summer or fall, never in the winter.. Sorry I am no help.. Melanie |
weather You can ask any airline for info..I was told by Delta that they concentrate on the heat, not the cold. I have received pups in the dead of winter in Md..two from Chicago in the month of Feb. One from Canada in December. Perhaps, it has changed. |
Thanks ladies. I'll call around. My imports came in the Spring and Summer. I was talking with a friend of mine about this and she seemed to think there was an 'embargo' period(??). Not sure what that all means. I'll find out. Thanks for your input Melanie and Pat!! Irene |

Shipping Irene, My Yvon and Waneska are from Hungary.. They flew out of Germany on LUFTHANSA.. There is a Lufthansa in Chicago at O'Hare International Airport.. I cannot find their number at this time, but you can maybe go to the Lufthansa Site or call information.. Melanie |
I think you can I think you can ship all year around, one of my friend is shipping her baby back to Hong Kong tomorrow, and the airline didn't say it cannot be done, and I think they are more professional nowadays that they know how to take care of the pets while they are traveling... i also have a question...how much does shipping a puppy internationaly usually cost? like an estimate... |
"I think you can ship all year around" I know this is not international but you cannot ship into Arizona in the summer time due to the extreme heat we have. |

I have a 2 year old female coming in the end of Jan. through LUFTHANSA into Altanta, GA, from Germany. My friend books the flights for me all I have to do is be there to pick up. So, not much help, sorry. |
Sorry to be a little OT here but Sue...if you ever need an agent to get your little ones thru customs for you or anything, I can get you the number of a guy I have used before in Atlanta when I imported from Hungary this summer. He was excellent! He retrieved my 2 yorkies from Air France, took them thru customs, took them to his kennel, cleaned their cages, let them eat & run around for a while (after being cooped up for over 24 hours!), and then took them back to the airport for their flight on to me in Nashville later that night all for around $150. It was well worth it! The pups arrived to me in tip top clean carriers and smelling A OK! they did NOT smell like dogs that had been travelling for over 30+ hours! They were not skiddish like I thought they would be either. This kennel was came highly reccommended to me and I thought I would pass it on if you hadn't heard of it before so that if that need ever came about, you would know that it existed. Let me know if you want to know the contact info. ;) As for shipping during the cold...I know that Delta just denied shipping some chinchillas INside the US this past week around the Oklahoma area because of the weather in Colorado. Chinchillas are acclimated to below what dogs are even. Not sure how the international flights work on this though. |

I live 5 hours from Atlanta, and if I they were shipped again it would be to B'ham AL. and that is 3 hours from me, so I don't mind doing the other two hours. I am usually so excited to get them I don't think I could wait any longer than I do already... :) :) But you never know different circumstances could come up and I may need to use that service... I will diffently keep this in mind, just in case... |
