Fetal Heartbeats-Experienced?PLZ READ Okay, so Pheobe is at 5 weeks tomorrow. It might be too early to hear the heartbeats, but i SWEAR i am hearing them...or SOMETHING. I have no experience with this but i have been listening to her tummy alot lately and after work today i swear i can hear the "tic-tic" sound. Im looking for better description of what it sounds like. I am definitely hearing something new, but im not sure if its heartbeats, or what. It literally sounds like if you were to slightly tap the hearing piece of the stethoscope with a pin. Some are faster then others. But i found what seemed to be a bunch of different sets, at least four. It could have been the same ones just radiating different areas, but it really seemed to be different ones. Maybe its just some gut sounds shes having, haha. i dont know. thats why im posting this. im so confused. i expected something more like a pulse noise like pheobes heart sounds like through the stethoscope, just smaller, or something:confused: Any information or definition would be appreciated so much! thanks |
Yep, a fast tic-tic-tic is exactly what a puppy heartbeat sounds like. :D You are doing very well if you can spot them at 5 weeks; I usually can't find them till 6 or more weeks along. My stethoscope is NOT one of the best, maybe that's why. Congrats on your upcoming litter! I've got a litter due TODAY, and I think we're right on track. |
Usually between 5 and 6 weeks is when you can hear the heartbeats and it does sound like a fast ticking sound. some say you can differentiate the males from the females by the rate of the sound. If you are hearing it in 4 different locations it may be a good indication that there could be 4 puppies. If any of the heartbeats sound fainter and your not sure then I think that would be an indication that the sound is bouncing off one of the other pups. Especially if it is in close proximity to another stronger sounding heartbeat. |
yep, exacty what they said... I LOVE listening to babies heartbeats.. I can spent hours just listening when one of my girls is pregnant. best of luck with your girl.. hugs, |
:D:D:D:D OH MY GOSH!! Im SO EXCITED! I cant believe i can actually hear them!! Now that i have reassurance im going to really try to see how many i think are in there! EEEEEEEK!! im extremely giddy about this!! Thanks so much for your replies! Im gunna probably be listening for hours!! Haha. This made my day, and probably all of my next week:) |
If you invest in a doppler, you can adjust the volume and hear them clearly and loudly! |
where would i find one? how much do they cost? I dont know if ill be ever be breeding again.. id like to, because im actuayl becoming knowledgeable about it and i enjoy it more then anything!! but not pheobe, and it wouldnt be for quite some time.. ut im interrested in this dopplar thing. TIME FOR RESEARCH!! |
I purchased mine from surgical supply store...used for checking pulses in patients with vascular insufficency....I paid a couple hundred dollars for the one I bought, but the have different models, not as expensive. |
Look on Amazon they have alot of different ones on there at different prices. |
I love listening for heartbeats too. I want a doppler but haven't gotten one yet. I'm just worried I'll spend all that money and it will be no better than a stethoscope! |
Theresa they have one on Amazon for around 25 bucks. I have no idea if it will work on dogs but for that price it's worth a try. |
How exciting! I wish I was a breeder when I hear stuff like this!!!!:) Congrats on your puppies. Hope all goes well for you and the little mama. |
Update: I’m actually now having more of a hard time telling separate heartbeats from one another. Theres so much noise in there. Even some of the tummy gurgles are throwing me off. I listen daily (some times a few times a day..because im so intrigued by this!!) I am having trouble locating a steady tic-tic-tic. My best example is: tic-tic-tic….(pause).. tic-tic… pause… tic-tic-tic-tic. And so on. Its very strange but I can hear it almost anywhere I listen on her. Im starting to doubt my abilities. Its so hard to tell what anything is when theres a ton of long tummy gurgles. And for a few days I had trouble finding any at all. Just heard digestion noises. Im going crazy wanting to be good at this and know what im hearing!! My estimate is that Pheobe is at day 51 today. Her due date is approximately the 27th. Still no movement… but an XRAY on the 24th will confirm pups and give me a good idea of location. Im going to be doin my best to figure this out!!! I HAVE TO:p |
Movement should start on the 50th day . At least from my experience first movement has been 13 days before whelping. But then all dogs are different in that. It does help if you know when she ovulated. |
Im not sure when ovulation occurred :( but, KICKING WAS FELT TODAY :D EXCITED EXCITED EXCITED! |
Won't be long now. Take your camera with you tomorrow when you have the xrays done. Try with a flash and without the flash. |
