Yorkie as a stud My friend would like to use my Yorkie as a stud for her Yorkie. He is about 4 years old and and quite small, about 4 pounds. Her Yorkie is about 8 pounds and more than twice his size. Is it safe to let them try? Also, should I ask for a stud fee? I'm not into breeding and this would probably be the only time we would do this. |

I agree with above posters. You are not a breeder, you don't know how to protect your stud from STD's to name just one thing you should be concerned about. You have no idea if genetically this pairing is a good match, and you are 50% responsible(ethically and unless your stud contract exempts you from financial responsibility then financially as well) for any pups borne with genetic defects. |
Not a good idea. So many things can go wrong and just throwing two dogs together to produce puppies is not a good idea. Is he championed? Is the prospective mother? ARe they both worthy of the breed to pass on their genes? What would be the purpose of breeding, solely to sell and/or supply a pet market? Not a good reason. If he is 4 years old, I would recommend neutering him. You do run a risk of having health issues leaving him intact including testicular and/or rectal cancer(yes learned about that one years ago from a grooming client with an intact Shih Tzu), prostate cancer and/or inflammation, urinary issues. |
