Hypothetically, A.I? I actually think I know what the answer to this is gonna be, but if I couldn't find a suitable stud for one of my girls on this stupidly tiny island, on a scale of one to impossible, what do y'all reckon the likelihood of a Good breeder agreeing to mate their male to a girl in another country? I am hopeful that I may have found the right stud over the border- which would be brilliant- but if that falls through for some reason, would a Good breeder agree to sending a sample for A.I to a bitch they have not seen and touched face to face? (This is assuming she passes all her tests of course, but at very almost a year old, her knees are pristine, and I'm not overly worried at all over the results of everything else either). See, the problem is that yorkies are a dime a dozen here- you can't walk down any street without seeing at least one, but the gene pool of healthy, breed standard YT is even smaller than I originally thought, and with our breed club not promoting any health tests at all (because the kc abs doesn't require any) then it makes things even harder! I have 12-14 months to figure all this out, but was curious what the possibility of bringing in American blood would be (and I know that is is even more difficult because I havnt been breeding long- and understand entirely why that will put most off the idea, so saying so won't hurt feelings! Lol) Thoughts? I'm aiming too high here aren't I? And merry Christmas everyone; and winter greetings for anyone to whom the last greeting doesn't apply!!! |
Have you championed your girl yet? Plan to? Do you know your lines inside and out? What health tests are you planning on doing? Does your girl has good solid CH lines behind her? In other words what do you plan to bring to the table, that would interest a very good male stud? I haven't done A.I. yet, but would plan to on my next mating. I'm very interested in the topic, as number one, how do you control how the sperm is used once it leaves your hands? But back to the question; I do hear your dilemma, have you set up a network yet with other European breeders of good repute? Joined breeders forums, and showing and mentoring forums? If I wasn't planning on a trip to Russia in 2012, I do so want to go to Crufts. That just a hop skip and a jump for you Crufts. Heck at the World dog Show in Paris last year there was over 200 Yorkies I believe entered. If not get busy now, I can try to find out for you what would be a good European forum to join. You can PM me and we can discuss. |
Thank you so much for your reply; I've been trying to pm you from my phone, but it won't work (and my pc is broken; heck all the tech in my house is malfunctioning ATM!) so I'm going go do so from my mums tomorrow- well, later today! Again, thanks, and happy new year! |

I don't know if this helps but with our World Champion Appaloosa, we sent it directly to the vet you plan to use for the insemination. |
Our vet is a repro vet and for any dog in regards to IA's they must have microchip and he scans the male before collecting and scans the female before inserting. If sending out I would send to a vet only and that would control the use...plus it would be hard to use on multi females in regards that they would have to be ready in the same time frame although sometimes they do come into heat together. To do an AI it is recommended to do overnight morning delivery, but you will also have to do progesterone testing on the female to time it out well. Good luck! |
