| Suze225 | 12-17-2011 05:31 AM | Stalling labor?? My Bella is almost 2, first litter, 65 days from her first tie....last tie would put her at 61. We are unsure of her ovulation date though. Her temp from the early part of this week was fluxuating between 97.9 to 99. Yesterday she started contracting....with some regularity....but contractions were not painful to Bella. She started licking herself a bit.....(No noticeable discharge.) She slept through 90% of them. She contracted throughout the day, never really bothering her. NO OTHER signs of labor what so ever. No digging, panting, NOTHING! I swear for the most part she did not notice them. Her temp rose very slightly yesterday to 99.3 (If I remember correctly). Then back to 98.5 & 98.6 last night & today. I got a few hours of sleep last night....woke up Bella was sleeping next to me soundly & no obvious contractions for 30 mins. Puppies have been active. Heartbeats with doppler this morning showed all 3 between 185-214. Had an xray at 57 days which showed 3 normal size pups....none of which were any bigger than the others. All very close in size range. Vet at that time said Bella for a 5 1/4 #er had a very large roomy pelvis, should not have any issues whelping. ( Daddy is a 3 pound extremely petite 1 year ol boy.)
Her belly dropped a week ago. Her milk came in earlier this week. EVERYTHING is ready for these babies to come....but they are not wanting to come on out! She has slightly picked at food.....less yesterday, but still ate a bit & drinking fine.
For the last 2.5 weeks Bella has been eating Blue buffalo wilderness. Lean ground turkey, lean ground beef, ground chicken breast...all mixed with rice. Occasionally an egg, or a bit of plain yogurt.
I have talked to our vet many times the last couple of days she has assured me things are ok & that we could have 24-48 hours before all babies are delivered. (This was yesterday am.) She says she is probably in early stage 1. She said this is the longest part of labor, (which I know) most people do not even realize their dogs are in stage 1 because it almost goes unnoticed, unless you are looking for it. Believe me I have been NEUROTIC in looking for signs & symptoms. I honestly would not have guessed that Bella was contracting yesterday if I had not felt them for myself. I will be calling my vet this morning.........but they are ony open for a couple of hours...& no vet is on duty, so this may not do me any good. (Unless the office will call the vet on her day off. UGH) Yesterday she said IF she doesn't go by mon. We will evaluate & make a game plan.
Bella is acting like herself. Sleeping alot though! She has been trying to hide a lot these last few days.
I am at a loss......any ideaas. I am panicked because we are on a weekend, no vets open near me, all about 1 hour away!
Are we ok to wait this out??? |
