Bad Vets? I am so tired of dealing with vets that are not very knowledgable on Yorkies. I have just moved to TX and today was the day that the pups got their tails done. I kow that others do the twist method at home, I just chickened out and took them to the vet. Of course they weren't comfortable with that method so they did the cut and stitch. We weren't home 30 minutes and Belle had the stitches out and they had a whole at the end of their tail. We had to go back and have them fixed. They put smaller sutures in then wrapped their little tails in tape. I am so worried that the pups have suffered to much stress. I worked as a vet tech for 5 years and have never experienced so much lack of kowledge. THe vet even recommended spraying Bitter Apple on the pups tails. If I contiune to breed I think I will do the tails myself. Sorry to vent I just wanted to yell, cry, or anything that would make me feel better. Annabelle is doing great with the pups though. They are gaining weight and seem content (at least until today). Thanks for listening. |
I too get very frustrated. I am not a breedr but I have five dogs and i do my research so I am very knowledgeable and they will say and do some of the most ridiculous things and unless you put it in writing they will even give your pet vaccines and do other procedures like anal expression, etc without permission!! I was just appalled. They always seem to be trying to pad the bill too with anything and everything. I get sooooo irritated! All of the breeders that I have personally had experience with (all with at least 20 years experience) knew so much more than the vets I am used to. I have tried five different ones in my area and I have finally found a homeopathic vet that I love. He refers me to specialists for anything he cannot handle. |

Clamp and twist is where you place 2 clamps near each other, in the area you would want the tail docked, you hold one firmly and twist the other. The part of the tail that you are wanting off comes off. There is no blood or stitches involved. It is suppose to be the more human method. |
