heat question? ok well the day has finally arrived makya is definitly in heat blood wich you can only see if she misses a spot cleaning, shes swollen and when you scratch her back her tail goes to the side. read somewhere that that means shes ready.last saterday she started bleeding today is wensday. ok my male has a belly band on and she has been wearing her diaper for short periods of time. she doesnt like it much. im not breeding at this time but i found it very odd that my male shows no interest in her . he sniffs my spayed females butt but no feelings towards my female. i thought he would let me know she was in heat by his actions but nope nothing. is it her? or is it him? i was going to go over to a friends house that has a male and see how he acts. anyone have anyideas what may be going on.just thought a male would rip through a steal door to get to a female in heat. odd. |
breeding You might want to pen her up...all you have to do is read the archives to see how many unplanned litters we have had here. People are positive their male would never be able to get to their female, but it happens all the time.. I may be misinformed, but I thought you were not going to breed your Yorkies because they were not breed quality and why take her to the neighbors to upset her male? This is not a game, you do not play with dogs to see how they will react to a female in heat for the fun of it..keep fooling around like this and you are going to wind up being the one that gets bit in the butt.. |
A lot of people think that belly bands and panties are safe, but in fact, they are not. Males can rip those off and then you have a breeding that you were not planned for. Please keep them seperated. |

Second a male knows when a female is ready, trust me HE KNOWS, he will do it when its time, just because he doesnt show interest now merely means she is not ready... It is best you keep them separate for at least the next two weeks to assure there will be no accidental tie! Third to take your female to another male for experimental purposes is irresponsible, please do the right thing, keep her separated from all males and get her spayed and him neutered! |

do not put any faith in those diapers for females. my girl chelsea who is a tiny little thing had one on years ago, and a male i had at the time bred her through the opening for the tail....outcome was a c-sec, spay and total disater for her and for me. i learned my lesson the hard way at the expense of possibly putting my girl in danger, which i did. i'm the first to admit when i'm wrong, but i try to learn from mistakes and not repeat them. i wouldnt take her around any other males. they can mount in a blink of an eye. best thing to do is have her spayed if you dont plan to ever breed her. once he starts getting that "feeling" and hormones start kicking in he may become a real hand full as far as marking. best wishes and good luck to you! |
As far as the male not being interested in her...I've always been told...a male will know when a female is ready before she does. |

Fly the female secretes a particular smell most often 10-15 days into the 21 day heat cycle which attracts the male and tells him she is ready!!! Panty nor belly band will stop a determined male , Please dont be risky or irresponsible, you can turn your back for one minute and a determined male can enter her, bingo she is pregnant! CONFINE THEM in separate rooms, dont take this risk!!!! youre playing with fire!! |
it has been my experience that they are most fertile when the bleeding stops. you've been given some great advice here from alot of wonderful breeders...take it! not the chance of her becoming preggo when that's not what you want. ;) |
Hi Kim! Are you rested up for more babies soon? Im so excited for you!! |
Homer is driving me NUTS right now as I have a female in heat, but she will not be breed. He has his belly band on and both of them take turns being out. Otherwise one of them is in a totally different room in a cage that is safely off the ground... But he just whines & whines...  For once I can say I can't wait until this heat cycle is over.... :p :p :p |

yep, i can surely relate to that! it really is hard to keep them seperate when you want to love on everyone at the same time. but is for the best and responsible folks will make it a must. (btw, got any new pics of those lovely biewers of your??? they always make my day...) |

OH GEEZE.....me too.....I thought you were going to spay and neuter this pair of dogs. You are playing with FIRE......good grief.....if you don't know when the female will breed.....you should never be trusted with BREEDABLE INTACT DOGS! To answer your question.....THE MALE KNOWS WHEN THE FEMALE IS READY.....he will breed her in a 1/2 second....so you say you are watching them.....trust me he can do it before you can get your fanny out of a chair. LOL Also to tease him like this is cruel.....he is a male....he expects to be able to breed her.....it is a natural instinct. i was confused because from what ive read in the books is that the heat lasts 3 weeks and she should attract males from when she starts bleeding Confused?? oh my word.....yes the heat cycle lasts about 21 days....but that is not set in stone.....some bitches last 12 days.....some for over a month. No she will not breed while bleeding.....she will breed when she ovalates.....which will be about 1/2 thru the cycle....what ever that is!!! and i just wanted to say im not depending on the diapers and the belly band i just thought he would be out of control. she actully spends alot of time on my lap and he spends alot of time with my daughter in her room but they have them on as one more precation so there is no excuse for an unplanned pregnancy Not depending on diapers and bands....I should hope not....I can guarantee you...your dogs are smarter than you are! LOL And your daughter is how old? You think it's safe to leave him there......I can see it now....we are gonna see puppies from these two.,.....<smiles> Just so you know.....I have a 4 lb male who will go over a 4 foot fence to breed a female......no one is safe around him.....unless he is totally encased in a kennel cage with a top!! Even then I'm not really sure.....he also will climb to the second story of an apartment cage to get his girl....he's one determined little cus! Yes please get this pair spayed/neutered ASAP.....why can't you take the male in immediately! Is that a problem? D |

Here's a tip......house them both in the same room! Yep....if he can SEE her he will be much calmer and quiter. I didn't believe this until a long time breeder told me.....I too kept them in separate parts of the house......the male would scream day and night! It has been sooooo peaceful since I put them in the same room......within his SIGHT. What I do is put up a baby gate....so one can be out at a time.....and it still keeps her within site of him. d |
