dam taking puppies out of welping box My yorkie had puppies 5 day ago. She has been very content with them in the welping box, but has now started to take them out and put them on the couch. I put them back in the box closed it off with a gate to prevent her from moving them. The welping box is in our family room, which is quiet and away from our two other dogs. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks |
You will just need to keep the momma in a closed off area with her pups. You will need to let the momma out throughout the day so she can socialize with you and the others. The pups are at the age where they are not eating as often and the momma gets bored being by herself. I have my puppy room setup so the mom is in a big exercise pen setup with her whelping box, food water and pee pads. When I have a litter I let the momma out about 5 or 6 times a day so she can run around. It does keep you busy for sure. Make sure you keep a close eye on the puppies toe nails. Once the tails started getting those sharp ends you need to use some baby nail clippers and cut off the points. |

She does definitely need to be either in a puppy pen or an exercise pen with her puppies. |
Thanks for replying. I have the welping box surrounded by a gated area. She can get in and out of the box, and has enough room for her food, water and to walk around/exercise. She seems happy, but I will keep an eye on her. |
My Maddie did that to. I finally gave in and moved her box to a corner of the living room. I think she just wanted to be with the family. |
I think they like to be close. My Lexi always wanted to be with us so I made it so she could come and go as long as I was around to watch the other dogs. She just wanted to feed them clean them and then spend her time with us. The first week she would spend most of the time with the pups but as they got older she didn't spend much time with them. Don't get me wrong she did all her mom duties but when they slept she wanted to be with me.. They become a lot of work as they get older but so worth it. |
i use a pack in play ( for a child) get them at garage sales. cut a dogie door in it and keep it in my bedroom away from the others. i put a blanket on top for privacy and dam feels so comfy in there. they will move them when they want to relocate the box. family room is not exactly a quiet place in my home |
