Wow, it is so very sad the mother had milk fever and this so called breeder couldn't fulfill her responsiblity that she accepted when she breed her female.

I'm sorry I don't have any info to help, but praying others will see this and be able to direct you...for the sake of this sweet baby. Poor darling so needs her mommy.

Wow, so young. Have you tried goats milk, it's better for them than formula. At five weeks they usually start learning to eat on there own. You could make up some baby cereal with goats milk. Or soak some puppy kibble in goats milk until soft and try that. You should get some nutria-cal just in case the little one needs a boost. Good luck, I'm sure others will have more advice for you. Also make sure you keep this baby warm, they are used to snuggling with Mommy.

Wow, 5 weeks, ok, get some good quality soft food I used enova puppy soft canned, and mix it with goat's milk, I saved a 4 week old pup, that someone just left at the vet clinic my son works at, with that mix, I was lucky enogh the puppy was healthy too.. I fed him that mix every 3 or so hours, it takes a LOT of patience and work but is so worth it, oh this baby did not even know how to eat I had to put the food on my finger and put it in his mouth,after a while he started watching the other dogs eat and he learned..best of luck..

Goat's milk has been mentioned here. It should be clarified that the goat's milk is the canned stuff you buy in the baking aisle (next to the condensed milk) and needs to be diluted 1:1 with water and have a small amount of karo syrup added to it.

She may not drink a lot, but there is quite a bit of water content in canned food that will help keep her hydrated. Adding some formula/goats milk to it will help, too.

At 5 weeks, she will be prone to episodes of hypoglycemia. Nutrical is a must have, followed by an easily digestible protein such as boiled skinless chicken breast to help prevent rebound hypoglycemia. Keep meal times frequent for now (at least 4 times a day). You can also leave some dry kibble out for her 24/7.

As cute and tiny as she is, she's going to need lots of rest. Keep play/handling to an absolute minimum right now (no more than 10-20 minutes max).

Also, her immune system is very weak at this point. No trips outside (use potty pads), no trips to petsmart (or any other place where she can come in contact with other dogs/germs). Even at the vet, keep her off the floor. She won't be considered fully immune until about 2 weeks after her last set of puppy shots.

Wow! To eat from the teat is not the only reason why a pup should stay with their momma and littermates :(

Oh goodness:eek: At least the puppy has a fighting chance, since you are HERE and getting great advice. It would have been much worse if it ended up with someone that hadn't a clue, and no one to give them advice.

I wanted to update everyone on how my little puppy is doing,she is great i am giving her canned puppy food mixed with some goats milk as some one here recommended "thank u" and she is loving it cant get enough of it and she seems so much more alert and looks healthier in just these couple of days and i will upload some pictures as soon as possible:thumbs up

I am so glad to hear you stepped in to help this poor pup! :) (Bad breeder!:mad:) My little Cricket's mother had milk fever and her litter had to be hand fed. Cricket's breeder did keep the pups and handfeed them. Cricket always seemed to think she was a human baby, and I always wondered if it was because she was handfed. You will have to let me know if you notice this w your little one! Very happy to hear the little one is perking up! Wish you the best!

and on a side note, in a pinch of needing emergency goat's milk, I had use the one from the refrigerated area too.. just added a bit of water and used it on the puppies, you never know when you need it in an emergency and walmart is closed and your market only carries the refrigerated one..

sad that the breeder didn't do their part but glad the pup has found someone to love and care for her. good luck, i don't have much advice but i think you did hte right thing taking her into your care and love.
