How many litters is normal?? I am currently browsing around and looking for a breeder for my next baby. I found a breeder, but my concern is that, the girl who is currently pregnant just had a litter not long ago (in January). I had asked her before and she says that she allow the dam to have a break after 3 litters...Is that normal? Here's her website Adorable Biewers - What is a Biewer? A Yorkie of another color.. I respect the ones who breed 2 in a row and retire sooner, My self i like to "skip" a season in between and retire my girls around 5 , depending on how well each pregnancy goes, since each one is a different experience. I would however be worried if someone breeds every heat season, like someone mentioned in the other thread, it is not a good thing or the right thing to do. A great thing is that you are taking your time to do your homework, you will find a nice breeder and be very happy with your puppy when it is time. Blessings. XOXO |
Yorkie club rules suggest a bitch should not be bred more then two out of three seasons without a rest...but each bitch is different. I have bred some twice in a row and others once a year..never 3 times and then a rest...too hard on a toy dog..JMO |
firstly, i need to point out that things are very different over here (as i'm sure you all know), but as a rule, a season has to be skipped- or you must wait a year- between litters. our kc will only register one litter per year, and age limits as well, but as of 2012, they are going to reduce the limit to 4 litters in her lifetime instead of 6. and hopefully the laws will follow suit! they will allow 5 or 6 under exceptional circumstances- i supose if its 2 champions fully health teated etc. but i'm sure that will be a very infrequent occurance. what with ireland being one of the puppy mill capitals of the world, it is always assumed when you see ads saying 'parents kc reg, pups not' you always assume this is because they have overbred (to the kc standards) - or that there are endorsments on the parents- and is therefore to more than likely be avoided. here is the link if anyone wants to read it... Our vet said that if the dog had the puppies easy and several months (like 6 or more) have passed since whelping and the next heat that the uterus is more flexible and to breed them back to back, then skip a heat. Seems like three breedings in a row (especially if they come into heat fairly soon each time) would be a little much. another 2 cents for whatever it's worth. |
