Apology I would like to apologize to anyone who was disturbed by hearing I have put puppies down...newborns. I forget how old I am sometimes..and what breeders back in the old times had to deal with...40 yrs ago things were so different...I was blessed to have vet who took me under his wing and gave me a very good education free...he was the best and when he retired, I retired and moved to Florida..that man came to my house or me to his any time of the day or night..but sometimes he was away and I had to know how to help my dogs...going to an emergancy vet would have been nice if we had one... Again..sorry... |
I've read so many of your replies, I feel like I know you, and saying that did not shock me in the least. I feel like you are as competent as many vets in certain areas. However, I can see how it might disturb some who aren't as familiar with your background. It's very thoughtful that you would apologize. I do worry sometimes that newbie breeders will take a little information and run with it. |
It's easy to forget that a small percentage of all animals are born with severe birth defects or congential abnormalities. In the years before cell phones & pagers, it wasn't so easy to have any kind of doctor on standby, especially if you live in the country. People did what needed to be done. Hopefully, with care, compassion and a loving heart. |
I have learned so much from you already and look forward to your insight on everything. You have definitely proven yourself and think that you are amazing. |
Pat, as someone that has been around ranchers much of my life, and having worked for a vet, I'm aware of relationships that can be built with a vet, what circumstances can arise, and didn't think anything negative about what you posted...but then, I know you and of your experience too. You're a sweet lady with common sense ethics I admire. And, very thoughtful of you to think of others and apologize for any misunderstanding.♥ |
Thank you... My kids used to say I was more worried about the Yorkies them..and in a sense that was so true...human help is easy to get... There is not thing worse then being a breeder and not having access to instant help...and that is why I retired. And I do agree, some breeders do things to save money...and you must have a close relationship with a vet to ok what you do... I will have to call my old vet and tell him about what I posted...believe me if I had shown up in his office with a newborn puppy who had suffered all night, he would have ripped me a new one... |
