I want to breed my MYKEE... What do I need to do to make my Mykee a stud? |
Quote:
Is he a Champion? represent the breed standard? Why do you want him to be a stud? |
I want to see a picture please! |
There's a picture in her meet mykee thread...cute little guy....but, as we all know more to being a quality stud than being cute. |
Here you go Pat: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...eet-mykee.html * Are you ready for the changes that it will incur? Marking, whinning, uncontrolable drive it will cause him? * Are you ready for the expense of all the testing? You cannot just decide to breed and just match two dogs up together! * Has he been evaluated by an expert that really knows the breed - to be a good representative of the breed - excellent quality? * Do you know his pedigree and about the health issues if any of his ancestors? * Are you ready to accept the responsibility of any pups he brings into this world - including health issues? The bitch is only 50% responsible. The stud the other 50%. There is more to consider - this is just the top of the iceburg. The best thing to do is be selfish, especially for him, and just spoil him as your pet. |
There are 2 threads on this very same subject by the OP.....one in General the other in the Breeders section...... Making Mykee a stud requires no work from you. Making sure that Mykee is stud quality is what requires work.....Elle May touched on just a few things....but, the list is long.... Also, keep in mind most breeders have their own studs, and unless the dog is a well known Champion from a great pedigree and known to be throwing exceptional pups....they will not attempt to go outside their own kennel for stud service.... |

I thought a Mykee was a breed of dog...I think there is one called MI KI or something like that...LOL LOL The worst thing you can do is make your pet a stud...you will regret it forever..and once you start breeding, you better have a steady monthly intake of bitches to keep him happy...lived with many studs, they were not the best of pets...love the dickens out of them, but they had a job and took it seriously.... When we were looking at houses we went into one and the realtor said..."this house has a strong smell of urine..owner had male dogs"...no it was not PEE..I know PEE..it was water damage due to mold...and I will take the smell of just about anything then stud PEE any day....neuter him and thank God every day for your wonderful pet. |
I agree with Pat, get him fixed and enjoy him as your baby. Breeding isn't easy and takes a lot of time, sweat & tears. Its rewarding, but things go wrong all the time. If your goal is to get another yorkie pup, buy one. :) |
I, too, have heard from breeders and read that studs are not always really pleasant to be around all of the time as pure pets. |

After Scooter got Sadie he started peeing in the house, showed aggression and was not the same little boy. Now that he is neutered he is almost back to his normal self. I say leave the breeding to the experts and believe me I just went through the whelping of four little puppies and now the hard part is starting. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Sadie is next to be spayed and my breeding days are done,,,,Thank You God. |
