Weight gain in pregnancy. What is typical? My Molly was 4.4 lb pre pregnancy. She is on day 44 and now weighs 5.8 lb, for a total of 1.4 pounds gained. Just curious what is typical for your girls to gain during pregnancy and if you have noticed any correlation to the number of puppies born. Molly had a litter last year and I cannot remember exactly how much weight she gained but I swear she was not this large so early - she had two pups last time. |

Weight gain is contingent on how she's eating, how many she's concieved, and how they are gaining. Several factors to take into consideration....also, one must remember with the the first litter their muscles are taunt, haven't stretched, just as in humans...... |
It also depends on how big the pups are in the womb. Some newborns are 2 or 3 oz while others might be 5 or 6 oz. |
Breeding I tried to have my female breed yesterday and when he finally penetrated she yelped and pulled away. What can I do to help her? |

1. She could be scared. 2. She may not be ready to be breed, the vulva gets softer and more flexible when the bitch is ready to be bred. 3. She could be to small to breed or she may have an obstruction. Was she examined by a vet to determine if she was big enough to breed? You can't just go by weight, some females are to small in the vulva area to be bred. Yorkies need assistance when being bred. I always hold the female while the male mounts her so she won't jerk away when the male penetrates her. There is a lot more to breeding yorkies than just putting a male and female together. Having a litter could be risky for the mom so you need to make sure she is suitable for breeding and make sure you are ready to handle all the responsibility that goes with raising a litter of pups. |
Mine girl was 5.12 and today she was 8.4 at the vet. They think she may have 6 puppies though |

I recently bred my yorkie and because she is so hyper, we put her and her sire in my dog crate (which is large) and limited their play space. They locked up in less than an hour and all went very calmly. Good luck to you! |
