Wee silly question... Missy has just had her 3rd, and what will likely be her last, litter... Of 7! She had the 1st 4 within 1hr 15mins, then had a rest for 1 1/2 hrs, then the last ones about 30-40 mins apart... But I could have sworn I could feel another- breech (sideways). It was still before our regular vets opening times and she wasn't in the danger time, so I did what I had been told to do and gently pushed it round a little. Then 5mins later it was gone- literally gone. I panicked thinking it had went back to the top of her uterus, contractions had stopped, and she was spent... So just incase of to the vets we went. By this time my own vets was open and saw us immediately. She did a physical and an ultrasound, and there was no puppy or retained placentas, but her uterus and pelvic cavity (?) was inflamed and her bladder quite enlarged- so it was probably a combination of those that I had felt- good job I didn't push on her hard! She was given an anti infamitory injection and a weeks course of antibiotic to control the swelling and any pain etc. (all perfectly suitable for nursing bitches) and is now happy as can be curled up with her wee bundles! So, after that long winded explanation, my question is: is that type of inflammation at all common for such a big litter, or did she just get unlucky? And sorry in advance for any sp.- I'm on my phone not pc and have been up since 4, after 3hrs sleep! |
Congrats on such a large & healthy litter! 7 yorkie puppies! Wow! :D I don't know if it is common or not, but I can unerstand it since she had to be pretty cramped in there! I am so glad you took her straight on in like you did. I have decided that if I ever breed again (doubtful at this point) I will consider a trip to the vet as soon as possible after delivery to be essential for good care! So many little things can be happening in there and by the time it is obvious -- it can be too late. Congrats again -- I can't stop grinning ear to ear at the prospect of all those little yorkie puppies running around very soon! :D |
The vests sick of looking at me! Lol! I couldn't believe it either- her 1st 2 litters were of 6! And she's such a great wee mommy- a little to urgent during whelp though... Needs her head held back to let me at the pups to help! That was my reckoning to- I Could have left it to see, but for the sake of £60 (it should have been £90, but we have spent a gd £600 in the last fortnight in there, so they were lovely enought to not charge for the scan) I thought it wasn't worth the risk... They are all rather tiny, but that's understandable- the littlest was 98g at birth! Your probably right- that would make sense... So for future readers- big litter= vet asap! :) littler litter= vet within 2 or so days... Missy would be in agony if she hadn't had the shot I imagine, but with new pups, they instinctively can't show it! In a few weeks it's gonna be bedlam! But I still can't wait!!! :D Little tiny fluffy things!!!!! Gahhh! :D I'll totally have to post pics in the nursery soon!!!! I'm still grinnin to- and have my 11wk old poppet on my knee! Happy as a pig in slips I am! |
No answer for you here - but just wanted to say Congratulations!!! And I hope you can get a little bit of sleep now. I would love to see pictures when you are able to. Congratulations again. |
congrats on the HUGE family! |
Thanks! She's an awesome momma! And so proud of herself! Lol And thankfully her meds have stopped any symptoms from developing, rather than having to try and treat them- if we hadn't have went in, she'd probably have started refusing to feed by now... Apparently she was just asking for infection to set in! And ouf! That would have been hard work! I'll post pics in the nursery in the next few days- that's gonna be a bit of a chore :) ! |

But after having 7 puppies with her tiny 6lb frame.. I would venture a guess that having that big of a litter can take it toll |
