Sadie is in labor Sadie is in labor and she is doing well. I knew something was up because all night last night she kept getting out of my bed and running to the whelping box then she would come back to the bed and bark for me to pick her up. I bought her steps but she refuses to use them. I was sitting here and she yelped and I looked at her and she was running around in circles and her belly was hard as a rock. I called my Mentor, who had to leave work, I told her get here now cause I can not do this on my own. She said stay calm I am on my way. She is upstairs with Sadie while I am typing this to let everyone know what is going on. Pray for my baby girl |
So glad you have help on the way! Said a prayer....keep us posted! |

Sending prayers to your girl and the safe birth of the babies. |
We are at a stand still. Sadie was having contractions every half hour and now they have seem to stop. Her temp is still 98.3 but she is not uncomfortable at all and she actually wanted something to eat so I fed her, I hope that is ok. Is this normal, can a dogs contractions just stop like this. I am so worried about her. |
Best Wishes to Sadie for a smooth and successful whelping. Sending Prayers. |

Yes, they can stop contractions. However, if she's had 10 hard contractions in a row. without whelping a pup something be hindering the pup from proceeding. You're mentor should be able to tell you what the danger signs are and when Vet intervention is necessary. |
praying for a safe whelp and thank God you have a mentor there to help God bless her for stopping work to come help and good luck to you both and mom and pups. can't wait to hear how it went and see pics. |

Something like this happened with my first litter. I woke up to find my Caty in labor. I called my job to get the day off but my boss was being an a$$ and told me if I didn't come in I was fired. I reluctantly took her to my vet's for the day (my vet also bred Yorkies) and went on to work. I just KNEW she would have the babies very soon, but every time I called, no babies. She stopped her contractions for the entire day. I picked her up after work and went straight home. Within 15 minutes we had our first pup. If Sadie doesn't know your mentor, it may be nervousness on her part that is keeping the contractions at bay. You could try to attend to her alone for a while, but keep your mentor close. This may relax her enough to go ahead and deliver. Of course, as Mardelin said, it could be indicative of another problem. I wouldn't wait too long without seeing a vet on this. Hoping for an update with good news. |

She is holding a low temp, though, so maybe it is time for her. Fingers crossed for a safe whelp. |

With my girls, it's the dilated eyes that are a dead give away for signaling labor. I've had them pant and seem very uncomfortable with no labor following but the eyes always tell me. Of course, once their behavior goes off the norm, I'm watching like a hawk until delivery. If you both think she's done for now, at least keep a constant eye on her as things could change quickly. If you see Sadie bracing her feet and pushing or see her tail make like a pump handle, that's definitely labor! Best of luck with Sadie and keep us updated. |

According to your previous posts your girl is on day 57 or 58 so a couple of more days in the oven is only for the better. One question when you stand her is her spine dominately visible....the upper half of her sides a bit more slab sided. It could very well be that the espisode yesterday were the pups dropping and getting ready. |
She just had an ultrasound and an x-ray a few days ago and they said everything is fine, pups are all lined up, whatever that means lol. Yes her spine is visible but her sides are not the way you described. What about the movement of the puppies, do they stop moving when the Mother is in labor? Her pups have been more active than ever. |

Ultrasound and x-ray a few days ago is a few days ago.....after what transpired yesterday I would want a more current snap shot. Didn't you ask your mentor these questions? |

With my girls, I notice that they get 'lumpy' just before giving birth. They go from just being big to looking like they're carrying a sack of potatoes. Just another indicator that the pups are getting into position. It can 'seem' like labor during that process and I hope that's the case with Sadie. Did her temp go back up? No discharges? Do watch for a green discharge with no pup being born. The green discharge is a sign of the placenta separating and the babies must come at that time. Is your mentor friend still available for you? If you notice anything happening be sure to have her there with you. Is your vet available to you since it's going into the weekend? Not sure if I posted this for you before, but here's a site that has loads of good info on the entire whelping process and what to watch out for. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders. Best of luck with Sadie. Don't hesitate to get her to the vet if you have any concerns for her. While breeders here don't mind offering advice, it's no substitute for having someone qualified actually there. |

No wonder she's having difficulty, not only is her body too young to be going through this but, she's not mentally mature. I definately would be at the vets' |
I hope all is well !! |
Took Sadie back to the vet she did an ultrasound and says the pups are moving into position which can also seem like labor, I beleive woogie mentioned that. Did blood work to make sure all is ok. Vet says everything looks real good and she can start real labor anytime. My mentor is availible to me at all times and so is the vet. Thank you all and I will keep you updated. |
glad to hear everything is on track, will be thinking of you & sadie! |
