tail docking what does a yorkie look like with a tail im thinking about leaving the puppy i keep from babydolls liter natural |
It is not the standard that people are used to in the U.S., however many are choosing to leave the full tail for humane reasons which is the law in U.K and other countries. The ones I've seen do look cute though, and owners often comment how they love how expressive they are with full tail. YT member Brister has a Yorkie, Jackson, with a full tail, and I'm sure you'll see more especially from our U.K. members. |
It is the standard and may make your pups less appealing to buyers but its your choice to make |
1 Attachment(s) Rizzo has his ful tail, you can check out my albums for some more pics. I like the tails, when the hair grown out it looks like a little bike flag waving :D |
Poppy has a full tail as it is against the law to dock tails here in the UK, you can see it in her photo's. |
tail docking i am only going to leave my puppy i keep tail as i know most poeple would want theres docked |
I love the Yorkies with the long tails. To me it just adds to their personality. |
2 Attachment(s) Jackson has a full tail. I prefer it, but think docked are cute too. I just find the procedure pointless. |
I love full tails-- I'm a breeder, and an exhibitor with a girl currently competing with her full European tail. Judges can be snotty about it, also other breeders. For the life of me I cannot figure out what the objection is, don't really care much any more either. MOST of my puppy customers are THRILLED to get one with its full tail once they come to realize docking is actually a mutilation. |
I really like the look of docked tails but I don't like to think about what it took to get them docked . . . Lucy's is docked; I love it when that little stub wags. But on the other hand, it seems wrong to cause pain just for appearance sake. So I'm just a mass of confusion over the whole thing :) |

I would have preferred full tail for Tiki rather than her stub that was docked too short. Love my full tailed Morkies with their "flag waving" tails. I also understand those who are so used to the show standard look and find it hard to accept anything else. They have their point/preference too. |

Judges are not being snooty but, judging by the American AKC/YTCA Standard. I hear over and over how some love tails, that it shows their personality. However, if you really understood the yorkie and what the judge looks for in animation, personality and attitude, it isn't the tail, but the ears. |

I agree with you as well. We just docked our's the other day. Some made noise, some not so much. They don't seem affected by it now and the ones that bled a bit we used some cornstarch to help stop it. Georgia was an excellent mother and cleaned them up and helped stop the bleeding, they were done bleeding in a 1/2 hour. If you want to dock them, just make sure that there is not excessive blood loss or start of infection (very unlikely). If you really don't want to do it yourself, then a vet should be able to help. I look at it as, when I was a baby, I don't remember all my shots I got in my foot or the spanking of my butt to start crying. I don't find it that traumatic, but this is just my personal opinion. It really is just a preference. As long as the dog is loved and cared for, that is all that matters to me.:D |
