litter of 3, mom keeps moving the little one Hi, My Yorkie Gracie had a litter of 3 puppies ten days ago. One of them is very tiny. She has no problem latching on for milk and I am constantly making sure she is in there getting some because the other two try and push her out of the way. She is a fighter though and gets in there. The problem is Gracie keeps taking her away from the other two. She moves her to the other side of the cage and then sits in the middle and just ignores the puppies cries. I am afraid maybe there is something wrong with the pup and she doesn't want to care for it. I put her back with the others. Sometimes I take the other two out so she can get milk without being bullied. This happens a couple of times a day. Has anyone ever experienced this? Am I doing enough to make sure this puppy will be fine? Any advice would be very appreciated. |
I am sure someone with experience will come along. Have you taken them to the vet or called them to let them know what Momma is doing. I do know that an animal will isolate one if it is sick so maybe momma is getting that one away from the others so they don't get sick. I will still put her on to nurse and momma refuses then you will need to feed her. But call your vet and see what they say first. |
Thanks Sara, yes I have taken them to the vet and all seemed well. I put the little girl on a blanket on a heating pad and mom came and got her and brought her back. She is now nursing and mom is licking her so I am feeling better about it. I am going to follow the advice of someone from a different thread and feed her goat milk with a dropper just to be sure. |

If you have NutriDrops rub them on the pups gums, prior to feeding time. It does give the pup more strength. |
