Is my yorkie pregnet?!? its been a week after her being done with her being in heat and her nibbles are out, she stays away from the family, she making a nest and shes aggressive. I don't know of anytime when she was around other dogs please help!:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
If you know for absolute certain that she hasnt been around another male dog then shes probably just having a false pregnancy |
How old is she and has she ever been pregnant? |
Just because she is no longer showing color (bleeding), doesn't mean her hormones still aren't out of wack. It will take several days to a few weeks before she gets back to normal. In other words the swelling of her breasts do subside as soon as the bleeding stops, or her mental state does not go back normal immediately. It's just like in human women, each female dog is different. I have girls that are very self confident, but the come into Season all coy and stupid on me. They loose their brains....it's haromonal, simple as that. Now if her condition continues in a few weeks and you know she hasn't been in contact with a male, more than likely it is a false pregnancy.....If you aren't sure I'd start preparing yourself. |

Willow started to show just two days prior to her spay date, then my Vet wouldn't spay for awhile to allow her harmones to settle and complete the heat cycle even tho she was no longer showing. She began Labor Day weekend and my Vet wouldn't spay until around the 1st of Dec. Then I didn't want to have it done so close to Christmas resulting her her spay not actually happening until Jan. Until this happened, I thought when they stopped showing, around a month, it was over. There is a lot that goes on with these little guys that most of us don't know about and that's another reason for unmentored people not to breed so willy nilly like some seem so eager to do. |

my porscha had a false pregnancy last july she was a pain we had to sleep with toys that she picked out to be her babies and she is coming back in heat this makes about day 5 so i hope she does not have another one . |
no she has never been pregnant she just got over her second heat, the only time she could have been near a male was the groomers but they didn't say anything about her being with a male |
If you took her to the groomers while she was in heat, than you could very well have the possibility of an unplanned whelping on your hands. It doesn't take long for a tie to occur. Your best course of action is to take her in to see your vet and see what they have to say. |

It can occur spontaneously, secondary to an infection (girls female organs are wide open during their Heat Cycle and suseptible to infection); as a post-partum (after whelping metritis, or mismating injection of estrogen,; as a post breeding or artificial insemination infection. This disease most commonly ocurs in bitches, starting at 3 to 4 years of age. The incidence increases with age and is increased in bitches with several nonpregnant cyles (false pregnancies resulting). Virtually every intact bitch can develop cystic endometrial pyometritis complex. Therefore, if they are not intended for breeding, they should be spayed prior to 3 years of age. The "classic" signs of pyometra are increased water intake and urination, depression, and lethargy. Fever may be present, especially in advanced cases. Sometimes a vaginal discarge is present, sometimes not. Anytime a bitch is "off" after being in season, watch for these signs. The time varies, but observe roughly at two to three weeks. Usually it affects older bitches but can occur in younger ones. It can be very sneaky; the animal may become critical before the owner recognizes it is ill. Once diagnosed, it must be treated at once. Spaying is the best option. Waiting to treat with antibiotics can result in a ruptured uterus and a fatality. An old adage in veterinary medicine is "don't let the sun set in a case of pyometria". Once you decide you will no longer be breeding your bitch have spayed as soon as possible. |
And what I wonder is this...if you are not planning to breed, why not spay & neuter at the first available opportunity? |

the reason we have not had her spayed yet is because we were worried she might be to young for sugary she is now a little over a year |
