Kurli Kids My name is Ladi and I like Kurli things I have been interested in 2 breeds and am finally ready to make a purchase. I live in New Jersey and was wondering if anyone knew of a reputable yorkie poo or malti poo breeder. I have never had a dog before and I need a hypoallergenic one for my home of asthma sufferers. Someone please help me find my Kurli Baby |
Since this is a Yorkie forum, I doubt you will have much luck finding a mixed breed here...good luck. |
Ok, I'll bite. Why do you want to pay for a mutt? |
No such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. I have allergies/asthma that bother me everyday since I brought them into my home...thankfully with my meds and my allergist it's only mild! I strongly advise against getting a dog with a household of asthma sufferers, you will mostly likely have to get rid of it! What is kurli...is that the same as curly (curly hair)? |
since yorkies and poodles are both as 'hypoallergenic' as each other, (they have hair not fur which rules out most fur allergies and hair hold less dander, but doesnt completely stop it- so it depends of the severity of the allery) why bother mixing them? since you want a curly haired one, i would therefor sugest a poodle, but temperment compatability should be more important than the looks- something with can Never be garenteed with a mix. |
If you want a curly haired breed- I am assuming this is what is meant by kurli- get a toy poodle- I grew up with them, they are wonderful dogs, I would love to have another someday- they are super smart and very loyal. They have their health issues like any dog, so make sure you find a very reputable breeder. Here are some photos of the toy poodles my parents currently own: they are great companions for Yorkies: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...gLover/all.jpg They are super athletic: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...thBELLA176.jpg They can fly http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...thBELLA170.jpg They can pose pretty http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/ellefall.jpg you can doll them up with bows http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...er/EllePic.jpg |
Be aware that hypoallergenic dogs aren't always hypoallergenic. It's true they have hair versus fur, which may be helpful. But many people are allergic the dander (which comes from the skin) and even to dog saliva. As for a reputable breeder of those mixes, the short answer is there is no such thing. No reputable breeder purposely crosses breeds. |
A mutt to you may be a treasure to me. I like yorkies but I have had the least allergic reactions to mixed breed dogs and no i am not allergic to doggie saliva. Everyone is different I am just a dog lover trying to find my perfect dog:) |
Now I see there are many opinions on this forum.. loving it! But opinions are good so here are some of mine: A reputable breeder is one who decides to to breed wisely, meaning they are not willing to compromise any aspect of the breeds they choose to mate. They do any testing to make sure the puppies wont pass any unhealthy traits and such. Now it is true that by crossing breeds sometimes the F1 generation will take traits from either breed where as F2 generations are more standardized (size, genetic traits) Now I have researched and researched but I want a dog and am willing to compromise mostly my own comfort to be a good puppy parent. Now my children are excited that I want a dog and as i child i was told no to my mother simply because she loved cats and now as an adult I can choose to do what I want. So to anyone who doesn't like whatever mutt I may get too bad :animal36 because the best part is.. It's My decision. But thank you for all the words of wisdom and advice, it was much appreciated. |

I'm not going to fault you for your desire of a "curly" coat but, most "reputable" Yorkshire Terrier Breeders will not ignore the breed standard to create a specific coat by mixing two entirely different breeds.:( Instead of being insulted by the opinions shared here (except for maybe one...) please bear in mind that we here at YT take great pride in the breed, just as it is...that's all.;) Good luck in your search! |
No Harm, No Foul I never take offense to anything I read.. an opinion is just that, an opinion. I have read so many horror stories of what happens when people go looking for that perfect dog only to find that they have been scammed by some careless breeder. Truth is there is no Perfect dog and even one whose breeder took proper precautions can still end up having seizures, or can be inbred, and sometimes can go to loving families without any knowledge of what it really takes to have a lifelong pet. I know nothing about these things.. but being on here and seeing how loving you guys are to your yorkies and even willing to tolerate my love of curly coats its nice to see. I am taking great time and saving to insure my pet when purchased gets proper paperwork, vaccinations, my time, and I'll still pray that everything works out ok. |

Testing only tells you that the dogs that are being bred do not have unhealthy traits. There is no genetic marker that guarantees that they are not carriers of said traits. |

I reputable breeder does not cross breed dogs. Yorkies and Poodles are both classed as hypoallergenic, but that does not mean that you wont get a reaction from them. I am allergic to both dog saliva and fur, Poppy (yorkie) does not bring me out in a reaction at all but my schnauzer cross does. But my aunt has asthma and dog allergies and both my yorkie and my schnauzer give her a reaction. So not everyone is the same. I recommend you find a reputable breeder of either yorkies or poodles, ask if you and your family are able to visit them and spend some time with her dogs to see how your allergies are around them before purchasing a dog which you may not be able to keep. |

The highlighted section is exactly why there is no such thing as reputable cross breeder. Crossing, by definition IS compromising the breeds. A reputable breeder is concerned with improving the individual breeds. |
