Stubborn Puppies I have three puppies that are 31 days old. Their cainine teeth are in and Elsa is backing off of the feedings a little more. I have tried to mush Eukanuba puppy with goats milk/water and karo. No go. They will try from my finger but will back off immediatley. It just ends up drying up in the pen. Any tips ya'll could give me? Barbara:animal-pa |
They need to be a bit hungry...most will hold out for mom, but no mothers milk for 6 hrs or so and they are ready for dinner...you can add canned dog food meat...that usually gets them going...or a jar of baby food meat. |
It is just now time to be trying them, so don't get discouraged. I waited til 4 full weeks old to start feeding. First I let them lap some goat's milk, luke warm. That gets them used to understanding the bowl concept. Then, added some ground kibble to make a mush. That never went over that well with mine. I tried different mushy concoctions but they never were crazy about any of them. Other breeders say theirs do well on mush mixes, mine did not. But then I would go ahead and put Royal Canin whole baby dog kibble down. They always started eating it. It is a tiny triangular size that helps prevent any choking. Every pup I have seen loves Royal Canin Baby Dog kibble. My adult dogs love to get a bite of it too! :) It must taste extra good. :) |
I don't really start until 5 weeks and then start with canned food. You can try putting a little on the roof of their mouth but not letting them suck your fingers. I've been lucky and have had little piglets :) |
With my kittens I started with canned food mixed with milk replacer. They started eating that at 4 weeks. By 5 weeks they were eating canned food by itself |
