Advice needed to help calm my nerves 2 Attachment(s) Hi all, it's been a while since I've posted but I decided to come here to try to calm some of my nerves as well as get some helpful tips and advice from those on these forums. My Roxy is pregnant and due Friday Christmas Eve. When I took her to the vet this past Monday, to have the x-ray, I was blown away by the number of little heads and spines we saw. The Vet counted 7 - 8 and honestly i keep counting 9. My Roxy is only 8.9 lbs (she's the same size she was when she had a litter of 5 back in August of 08). I've attached a picture of the x-ray here. Maybe ya'll can look over it and tell me how many you see. My concerns now are for Roxy, she handled the five she birthed back in 08 with ease. Now with such a large litter I'm just not sure how she's going to handle it. I have all of my whelping supplies on hand, I have a nice whelping box that will fit the large litter and momma. I've gotten all the supplies to make the whelping pudding and I've been giving eggs, cottage cheese, and livers mixed in with her own food. I've been keeping in close contact with my vet and I'll be contacting him the minute Roxy goes into labor. I'm aware that a c-section may be in order and I'm fully prepared to go that route if I have to. I'm just so concerned for Roxy because the litter is so large. Any advice on what else I should do to prepare?? Calm my nerves? THANKS!!! Attachment 333928 Attachment 333929 |
Wow , lots of puppies for Christmas. Do you have bottles and goats milk ,in case you have to supplement feed them since there are so many. |
I can see seven. Goodness, I hope the Vet. has said she will need calcium after those babies are born, and that you have some tiny bottles to supplement their feeding. Your going to really have your work cut out for you. I hope all goes well and that Roxie delivers without complications. Keep us up on how she's doing. |
Wow It's the FIRST time I've seen an xray of a pregnant yorkie...Thanks for sharing!! I am not sure how you count...but I see a lot of babies in her stomach...her tummy is BIG! Good luck! |

Wow, that is a lot of babies. I remember a while back there was a yorkie who had 10 puppies!!! What a blessed Christmas present! Keep us posted! Kate |

My vet hasn't given me any lactated ringers but we have discussed it. We've also discussed me just taking Roxy up to the vet when she does start delivering because the litter is so big and then the vet can assess the needs of each puppy |

I know you're nervous and I'd worry if you weren't. I don't know if any one of us can calm your nerves. Maybe some xanax???:D With a litter this size, she'll probably go in to labor sooner than later. I don't envy you, the whelp is scary as it is, but you are going to be one busy lady. Good Luck. |
CHRISTMAS puppies awww i've never seen an xray of puppies before. this was neat. i see like 7-8 puppies i can't really tell good luck and Merry Christmas to you and the puppies. |
I know nothing about having puppies. Praying for a safe delivery. I would try xanax and Bailey's on the rocks. |
Wishing for a trouble-free whelping. Post soon and tell us the results. |
Any news yet? |
