Heat cycle intervals Please, if you can, could you guys give me some idea of how long your bitches (or Dams :) ) come into heat? I ask because my female has had 6 months since her first one and Im on the lookout for it now but I know it isnt an exact science that I can predict! Everyone has a different time line! As soon as she comes into heat she needs to be watched carefully and moved inside. I have heard that small dogs usually have it every 6 months - then others say 8 to 9 months. what is your experience? My girl has started to lick uncontrollably but no signs of swelling or bleeding yet. She is quite a heavy bleeder and her first heat was very visible |
I have found, both with my Yorkies and with the Pekes I owned in the past, that it's not uncommon for their heat cycles to be longer than 6 months in between. My Yorkies have always gone 8-10 mo between. Then again, sis has a female (pet only) that was going into heat every 3 months up until she was spayed at a little over 2 yrs old. It has also been my experience that as they age, their heat cycles space out even more or become practically non-existant. Of course, ideally, they would be spayed when they are older, but... I'm sure it varies. It will be interesting to see what others have experienced as well. :) |
Mine go every 9-10 months |
I suppose just like all animals and humans each individual dog will differ :) Good to know! |
It is often 6 months but my girl Sadie was almost 10 months between. I thought that was nice actually. |
I would prefer a few more months! |
Mine keep themselves so clean it's almost easy to miss. Only their first heat did any blood get on anything. Now that never happens, so I'm glad for that. Kendra |
I was scared the first time that I would miss it but my little girl really bled heavily :( I had to have her in nappies to keep the house clean...not really looking forward to that again just yet! |
