I want to see if I can find any owners of a female yorkie in the Orlando area interested in breeding for pet-quality puppies. My baby is CKC registered. He's adorable and I would just like to find a cute female for him to breed with, purebred, but not necessary to be AKC-registered. Please PM me or email at UCFXtina@yahoo.com:)

the vet told me all kinds of things about it....should i wait till a year? ive just been thinking about the neutering and i get worried.

Just be prepared for your little male to possibly "change" after using him as a stud. I don't have a lot of experience with this - not enough to say for sure that it WILL happen - but I used my male toy poodle years ago one time to breed and if it weren't for such cute babies that came out of the experience, I would have totally regretted it. The worst part was his marking habits afterwards. He got really bad at that and that's one of the drawbacks I've heard about stud males. Just check into that and be well-informed before you choose to use your pet to breed.

By the way, that little boy of yours is adorable! If I was looking for a stud (for Tatum, of course ;) ) based only on looks, he'd be way up on the list!

Once you turn your little man into a stud youre asking for bad habits!!

they become peeing machines, everything is fair game including your leg, a puppys head, furniture, rugs, door wells, need I say more! They will mark everything in site and everything in any house or public place you may visit in the future.

Its containable by using a belly band (changing the pad about every 3 hours, using baby wipes to keep that area clean).

Your best bet to locate a reputable yorkie breeder in your area to evaluate your dogs quality, just because he is tiny or adorable doesnt make him a quality stud (look in the YTCA directory, get an educated opinion) as well you need to do the proper health tests for liver shunt and LP's.

He really is adorable. Good luck with whatever you decide. If he has no bad habits, whether you decide to breed or not does not mean you HAVE to neuter him. I have decided not to risk the surgery for my two tiny females because I can guarantee they won't get pregnant and I think the surgery risk is to great to warrant such a major surgery. My vet is of the philosophy that they shouod keep all their god given parts unless there's a real valid reason which is in their best interest to spay/neuter.

The majority of veterinarians and breeders along with the thousands of people involved with rescue and shelter for the multitude of unwanted dogs in this country agree that neutering a pup that you choose not to use for breeding is the healthiest and most considerate choice to make. It is common sense that dogs minus their god given parts cannot develop diseases that are common to those parts and many. many accidental breedings occur in even the most careful situations.
If you are unaware of the health history many generations back in his pedigree there are a myriad of genetically linked issues that need researching before you make your decision. The realization that you are responsible for every life you create and any future progeny of those dogs also, is a large burden to accept. Be well informed before making this choice and best of luck to you whatever you decide.

:thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: Thank you for posting this Stacy - I agree totally - if everyone was scared to spay/neuter we would have a much worse homeless pet problem than we already have.....and far too many puppies born with problems from accidental breeding -

I don't want to take this thread off topic but I must write one thing. Millions of dogs are euthanized - a pretty way of saying must be humanely killed - every year in the US alone because of uncontrolled breeding. Please, spay or neuter your dog if you aren't planning on breeding.
