Where have some of the "oldies" gone? I have just noticed that certain ladies are not on here anymore? Not just one person but a flock of them. One by one they are disappearing and am wondering if anyone else has noticed? I may not have seen eye to eye with some of them but their years of knowledge and constant help with sick, injured, birthing, or what have you help will surely be missed. I will not name them as I am not trying to start anything. If they are suspended for a short time could someone let me know? |
Probably escaping the madness! |
Back in September when I tried to log on to YT, my Mac came back and said there was Malware attached to the YT site. So maybe they received a similar message and are afraid to try to log back on. |
It's been happening for a while now. Slowly, they have stopped posting. (I'm pretty sure we all have some of the same members in mind.) I know many quit posting in this section (but still post in the show section a bit) because they got fed up for being criticized and accused of being rude every time they tried to answer questions. Often, the best answer to a breeding question that is in the best interest of the dogs and the breed in general is not the one that the askers like hearing. But sadly, instead of appreciating that someone with years of experience took the time to give them a well formed, honest answer, they lash out at those where were trying to help. Who wants to continue to take time out of their busy days just to get that kind of reaction out of people? You'd have to be crazy to do that! :(Fortunately, many of them are still members and still post, just not in this section. (Many still post frequently in the show and other sections.) Most of them will take the time to answer questions via PM and are always willing to help those who really do want help and who are open minded. |
I know a common complaint with many of our more knowledgeable breeders and/or owners is that when they do try to pass on information they are labled as mean, preaching, or rude. That gets old after a while. They love the breed so much they want to pass on their experience but only the RIGHT way. They don't hold to breeding out of standard, untested, ultra-small, poor breed example dogs. They don't have patience for those who do not put the needs of their dogs first and money second. They don't like hearing about people breeding with no idea of what they are doing and who only come for help after things go wrong. They don't like people figuring ways to get cheap yorkies when they have no means of providing them with the kind of care they may need. They don't like doing ANY business with pet stores that sell cats and dogs. They don't have any love for the dirt of the earth people who run puppymills, back yard breeders, or those who would sell a sick or injured dog. I probably should not be speaking for them but I know many of these things weighed heavily on mind too and I am a novice ex-breeder. After I lost my husband, and then not long after that Sadie, I just did not have it in me to keep speaking up in these kinds of threads knowing I'd often get guff, but I felt like ignoring them was tacit approval and I could not feel good about that either. So, I went away for a year. I think a lot of people do the same. You just get sort of tired seeing the same sort of abuse, mistreatment, neglect, screwed up priorities. You try to head things off at the pass and give info where you can, sometimes even having to offer rescue as an alternative for someone in dire straits. Then you get some self-appointed judge with no real experience calling you mean, rude, or not using your brain. You can usually just shake them off like a little kid calling names on a playground, but some days it just flat ticks you off! It is easier to stay in the real world where the people I associate with all treat their dogs like family, take great care of them and don't breed irresponsibly. But then you run across an old email from someone special on Yorkie Talk and remember why you were a member for years. There are just so many great people here that they really do overshadow the few .... I'll call them uneducated and unenlightened. This is a special place that draws me back. I have taken two breaks from here and missed a lot of people each time. But taking a break can be good for a person so they don't become too jaded and give up the good fight! I am sure there are many other reasons people take a break or leave altogether. A fight with someone, a perceived slight by someone, a new job, no time, computer broke, stopped paying for online service, maybe they lost their yorkie and it is just too painful, found another forum, just too busy living life..... could be anything. |
I thank you for the kind and thoughtful posts. I understand what you are saying and being rather new I guess I am still in the "fun" of YT. These "oldtimers" may have been straight forward and may have been in on "heated" discussions but in those I felt their passion for the breed. I had a great PMs from one that was banned...then slowly more and more came up MIA... Well to the ladies that have given me kind words, firm words, help with issues, and just kudos...thank you... |

Well, I have been missing quite a few members & I don't think it is always for that reason. I was wondering if others had decided that FB was the way to go for keeping in touch?? You get attached to these little furbutts & their families, especially when I first joined and through the years. Sent a couple of PMs too, but they don't seem to be returning here, sadly. Always wondering if they are ok. |

Ditto! for me. I do miss reading those who have tons of knowledge though. I love this site. I have gained so much knowledge here. And its great knowing Im not the only one with yorkie fever. lol |
I think that if you post and read in the breeders section, and the sick and emergency section, you do need to take a break every now and again. It can be quite disheartening, and I've only been here a year. I can't imagine those members who have been here for 3 5 7 10 yrs or more. I do know that there must be a harsh dilemma, if we give advice, help, and support to those clueless breeders, those who don't take the time to learn, those who don't treat their dogs well, am I supporting BYBers, or heaven help me, puppy mill breeders. And then of course you have the "trolls" I think they are called that, that deliberately come on here to post outrageous stories, to stir up the emotions, to twist our hearts in pain to read about their perhaps true stories of little ones in pain, suffering, through their ignorance. And after the dust is settled, we realize that we have been "had" again. And we hurt yet again. For how can anyone do this to other thinking, feeling human beings. It is very sad. It hurts. Everytime I read one of those posts, I want to pick up my little one, hug and kiss him, and say never, ever as long as I have breath in my body, and strength in my limbs, shall you ever suffer in the ways I've read about here. Callous indifference, animal neglect, animal abuse, that posters don't even think that they are guilty of. I too have noticed and missed some of the long time posters here. |
There are so many disturbing things that go on here and the members that step up and help are always attacked. It gets old after repeatedly being attack for standing up for what you believe. It's a shame that there has been an exodus of good decent members. I'm not even sure at times why I bother to sign on and put myself out on a limb. My saving grace recently was the Gift Exchange. It was fun and lighthearted. For a few weeks I just came to play around and act silly. |
