?? about labor Okay my girl is getting up and pacing the floors about every 10-15 mintues. She'll dig, pant, go to her pee pad, squat and push for about 15-20 seconds, make another round around the room and go back to the pee pad and do the same. Only a drop of pee comes out and then she goes back to her crate to rest...is she trying to poo or pee or is she starting stage 2? this is really dragging on slowly. |
When she is laying down is her tail going up? |
Sound like she is getting close. She if her tail raises or stretches her legs..that is a sign on contraction. |
Sounds like she is having a great deal of pressure and feels the need to relieve it in anyway she is familair with...do you actually see contractions or just the need to squat? |
Yes I agree, usually the whole squat and try to pee is a sign of a contraction and a pup coming down the canal. Keep your eyes on her at all times now.... So excited for you .....keep us updated... |
She is raising her tail when she squats. She's been streching her legs in her crate. I'll keep a closer eye on her tail..I havent been paying that much attention to it. I'll watch her and let you know more about her tail position. Thanks a bunch guys. |
That is a sure sign of pushing when they stretch out their legs and raise their tail and a contraction is seen. They do not all pant. They do not all dig. They do not all follow any book we have. Some grunt when they push others do not. Keep that one in mind. I have a girl that shows no signs! She eats even during labor! The only sign I do get it the tail raise, leg stretch and licking, then you look over and there is a pup all the way out!! So eagle eye time....getting jittery just thinking about you doing this... |
Okay, she just got done making another round. She is lifting her tail only when she squats to try to pee. Walking around and panting--no tail lifting. She's doing really well. |
Is this your first litter? |

I've got several people to help me should I need it, I just dont want to bother them just yet cuz i'll prob need them later tonight LOL. |
Best of luck with the whelping it sounds like you got a long evening ahead of you |
Oh it is just me. I have whelped out many litters in my life but each time the jitters take me until that first pup is whelped and then automatic pilot kicks in... but still is stressful till everyone is born safe and sound...waiting for puppy wailing...;) |
So far we have two safely delivered. |
Just checking to see if all the puppies are here yet. Hope everything went well with the babies and mom. |
How exciting and nerve-wracking:laugh: Sending well wishes to your new little momma and her babies:) Hope everyone has arrived safely by now and that you're all getting some well deserved rest:D |
haha Thanks. There was not a third pup like the x-ray showed. We gave her the POP shot too. Her tummy is flat and squishy. I've detected no fetal heartbeat or movement. Things got scary during delivery. Two sacs presented themselves at the same time. Two bubbles of almost equal size and looked to be about the size of walnuts each. I phoned the ER vet and was told that was normal, but to wait 1-2 hours unless I was sure a pup was stuck. She pushed constant for about 40 minutes...I threw my shoes on and was going to take her in anyway but then I saw a head in one of the sacs so then I figured it wasnt stuck since the head had came down. I helped her get it out, but then that second sac was STILL there and the placenta gave us a difficult time coming out. As soon as that placenta came, the other pup came out easily. For the first few hours, momma didnt want to let the pups nurse and kept trying to get away from them. She wouldnt let me get any rest either as she kept coming out of the crate and begging me to let her come up in the bed to sleep with me. It was an all nighter and I'm really tired, but I'm thrilled this delivery was uneventful considering two pups were trying to come at the same time. I'll post pics and weights in the nursery, but I will say there is a surprise in the pic. |
Oh big congrats on your two pups. Glad all are doing well. Get some rest! |
Congrats! I came here hoping to hear good news! |
Great! Going to the nursery now!! |
Great news...:D I love babies...post pics when you have rested... I love newborns with tails:) |
Finally checking in. Just 2 pups? Hmmm...guess I'll stick to reading neonatal xrays instead of dogs :p Congrats. Can't wait to see pictures. |

Yep, we were fooled too..even the vet. She thought there were three based on the postion of the head in relation to the spine...but these little ones are very flexible. |
