need advice my yorkie mum lost her baby Hi there I am new to this website and really would appreciate some advice my yorkie has given birth to 5 pups 1 was still born and we also had a very imature pup who sadly died this morning he only lasted 2 days. we did our best to keep him alive but he was just too small. now my yorkie mum is understandably grieving what can i do to help her? this is her first litter and she is a very attentive mum. I also have a 10 week old pup in an other room Iand 've kept them seperate for the pup's safty is this upseting her as well as the death of her own pup? any advice would be helpfull thank you td |
The other dogs and pups are probally upsetting her more than losing her own pups. I have found after losing a pup and they still have others to tend to the bounce back pretty fast. I would keep her and the remaining pups in a quite place that she can't see any other of your dogs. |

thanks oh thanks for your help I did research into this before embarking on becoming a breeder and thought I had covered every possibility and I do know my yorkie and the breed pretty well but was surprised when she re-acted in a strange way she would howl and cry and run round the room looking for her baby which i thought was reasonable but then she wouldn't tend to the others unless i pushed her it got so bad that I had to lock her into her crate for an hour or so watching from a distance and kept to room quiet and she did settle for a while then started again later. however she seems to be a lot calmer and is happier looking after the babies. it was a scarery moment. td |
