Thanks Calista and Family My response: Hello Again! Thank you so much for your quick response. Your yorkies are so precious! Thank you for sending the pictures! I am a bit concerned, however. I have contacted three people about their Yorkies, and each person has responded telling me that they are missionaries - out of the country helping other people. Each person only asks for the expense to have the Yorkies transportation covered. Your internet Ad stated that you lived in New York State and I was so looking forward to seeing your puppies before purchasing one. Since I am only 14 years old, my mom has reviewed each e-mail response. She is very concerned about what we are receiving in e-mail responses. How I wish that I could trust what each of you have told me. But I know that the internet can be unsafe. May I ask where you are located? Thanks for your quick response. Roxie Her response: Hello Roxana, Why we decided to ask only the expense for the shipping of the puppy is because if we decided to put the puppy up for sale it will be difficult so we are only interested in finding a loving and caring home of the puppy so if truly you desire to have one of them then you should be rest assure that you are at the right place okay and please you should be very careful when dealing online because they are other who are out to hurt young people like you.Why we decided to ask you those question is because we want to know the right home our puppy is going to and know you better.I will look forward reading from you soon. Regards,Calista My next response was: Hi Ms. Woodluck, Thank you for writing to me and for your words to try to ease my worries. But.... the other two people that I have been in contact with about their Yorkies also told me that they were in Cameroon. How could all of you be in the SAME place with Yorkies that need adopting? This really sends up red flags! We are very religious too, and the thought of anyone trying to take advantage of other people is just terrible. My mom always says that we need to be extra careful in this world of sin. The internet has created such evil. I don't think my mom would let me ever purchase an animal without seeing it in person and getting to know the people who own the dog. My mother grew up raising animals from the wild because her father was a rehabilitationist who cared for wild animals and then would set the animals free once they were old enough to go back to the wild. She loves animals and wants to be sure that we adopt/rescue or purchase an animal that has been raised according to her very high standards. She wants God's creatures to have the best life possible. Would you ever send money to someone that you've never met and don't even have proof that a healthy dog will even arrive to your home? My mom said that maybe the pictures that all of the people have sent to me from "Cameroon" could possibly be just pictures taken off the internet of some other person's dogs. Maybe there aren't even any dogs with any of you? I'm so afraid to even be communicating with you. But... maybe you are a kind, God-loving person. I'll probably never know the truth. How could you ever prove to me, a 14 year old girl that a Yorkie really is with you? Maybe a video taken with todays newspaper headlines and dates showing along side the puppies - I don't know - but I feel that I need to look elsewhere for the right puppy. I know that God will put the right pet in my arms when the time is right. I wish you all the best and hope that you really are on a mission for Good/God. Respectfully, Roxie Her response: Hello Roxie, If you are interested in having your dream comes true then i could help you but if you feel you may be ripped off then i will still advice you to take care okay.I wish you the best of luck.May God bless you. I emailed three different breeders and they all said they were in Cameroon and that they took all of their yorkie puppies with them. Also, why do they all have really bad grammar? |
They are Nigerian scammers...the grammar is always a bit off..anyway, do you really think people in the Cameroon are breeding Yorkies? They are more likely to eat dogs then breed them..no offense to anyone in the Cameroon. |
I think it's funny how after your first email they tell you to give them all of your personal info. Roxie |
I noticed that... I looked up some info about the Cameroon..average income is only $2300 per year.. |
While I know nothing about the breeder and I do suspect a scam here - I can tell you that my sister is deaf and she speaks exactly like the breeder. There is a college in New York for the deaf - in Rochester. |
My English is broken sometimes, as you guys all noticed i am sure. That is because i am not a native. When i am working i use a software that helps me achieve 100% native perfection. But can not be used everywhere. but the Cameroon SCAM is old , it could be the low income there or just the same scammers over and over being not punished and every once in a while someone falling in their net keeps them going. They offer "parrot eggs" too, and i have seen them all over. I sometimes think people would just know better but unfortunately it keeps happening and people keep falling for it. If you send money they keep on the stories , saying that the puppies left and are "stuck" in France or somewhere and you need to send another 150,00 dollars and they will keep going on and on until they can get no more money. You read stories online all the time. My self i just think that some people so much want to get "something that it is too good to be true" , that they believe and fall for those scams keeping them alive. I have however to vent that it really upsets me when someone calls me asking for a "big discount" and they expect me to feel sorry for them because they just lost 500.00 or even 1000.00 dollars to a scammer on the other side of the planet. If it sounded too good to be true that is what it was !! TOO good to be true ! I get that a few times every year ... people calling me, telling me how much they wish and long to have a yorkie puppy and if i would be kind enough to give them an extra big discount because they have just been scammed .... I am not sure if i feel bad for any of them... last time i had this man calling me first, than i know he called another nice breeder near... he called me again and told he found his puppy within his price range... than a month later he calls me again asking for a huge discount because he had lost 650.00 to the scammer .... He was sort of desperate and apologizing but it was never my fault first place. He made it sound like it was because neither me or the other breeder wanted to compete with the best price he was looking for. And the worse , these scammers use the good causes as an excuse for their business out of the country ... awful ! XOXO |
Seems like a scam to me too. |

I saw this ad once and inquired about it because I knew they were sammers. I wanted to see what they would say. I got nearly word for word the same response as the OP did. They were asking $175.00 and were in Cameroon...etc. I insisted on seeing photos and they sent photos that were obviously stolen. When I politely declined I got emails for three days begging me to take them. How can we put a stop to them?? Is there a Cameroon SPCA? |
Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | Home is the FBI website to report internet fraud/scams. Since most of the correspondence for these scams is occurring on the net, you can contact them let them handle it. |
It is not the grammar exactly..I am no English major myself..but it is the word selection and how they are written in a sentence. I have seen the exact same emails from people stating they are in the US..when asked if you may pick up the puppy in person, they agree, people who have fallen for it find no such address after sending the money. |
I saw one of these in my local newspaper (online). I emailed the person and they were also a traveling missionary. Once I realized it was a scam, I wasn't nearly as polite in my replies as you were lol  |
I got the same response to an ad for a re-home. I didn't bother writing back after the first email came, I just reported the scam to the newspaper and they took the ad down. |
Some online sites and newspapers are now posting a "flag" warning people about the scams and the caution to deal locally instead of sending money, specially through wire transfers. I think that is a step forward to stop it . Another nice warn flag i saw in a local bank here in my town: They have posters all over, including in the drive through warning people about the fake money orders and fake cashiers checks that have been showing up. I believe that every effort counts, the more the word is out there , the more people will be aware of the scammers and less people will fall for them! XOXO |
Good Morning all I ran into the same scam for puppies that were posted online here in NC! Yes it is a scam........ |
WOW, I never read such a scam.....prob why I NEVER buy online:( |
VERY old scam. About 6 months ago I was looking to buy a bulldog pup for my boyfriend as his last bulldog had just died and he was heartbroken. I looked at online adverts from my local newpaper all claiming to be in my area or within driving distance. I think I emailed about 20-30 different people and ALL came back as scams with emails similar to the one you received. They were all stating they were in a different country to the one in the advert and only wanted me to pay a couple hundred pounds for shipping fees. Most of the time they only had 1-2 photos of the pups and they were all very staged and looked like they had been taken from Google images. (I even got the same photo from different scammers lol!) One scammer stated he was in scotland which is only a couple of hours drive from where I live. He wanted me to pay a £200 delivery fee for the pup, I said that I lived close and I would drive to his house to pick up the pup myself. He agreed but when it came to setting a date he kept changing his mind... when I said I would come get the pup that weekend he said he was moving to Russia that weekend so he will ship the pup from Russia LOL!! They really do make you laugh. When I asked why he only wanted shipping fees when these pups sell anywhere from £1000-£3000 here in England he said that they were his wifes pups and she had died so he couldnt care for them anymore. They really will stoop low when money is involved and try and pull at your heart strings. DONT LET THEM, put your emotions aside when looking for a puppy online because its easy to get sucked in! |
I've received these also (3 to be exact). I responded to the last one with "no worries, I've contacted the authorities to help you with your dilemma..." They quit bothering me. This "missionary work" scam is so old and common now it's hard to believe anyone is still using it. |
This is definitely a scam. It is not just in the dog world either. I contacted the same person/group while looking for an African Grey parrot to adopt. They sent me the very same e-mail and wanted a $1200 adoption fee. People like this make me sick. They take advantage of hundreds of people including the elderly and the sick. I think that when these people are caught they should have a good old fashion hanging and do it right in the middle of the court house lawn. Maybe then, it would make people think twice before trying to scam someone out of what took them a lifetime to build. Oh well, that is just my opinion on the subject. Congrats for being too smart to fall for it. :aimeeyorkYorkieProud:aimeeyork |
