What can going to a show offer us non-breeders? I understand that there is a show coming up in Atlanta at the end of August. I would like to go just to see the different dogs. I'd like to learn more about yorkies and agility and all sorts of other things. I've never been to a show, so I'm not sure what to expect. What kind of booths or events are there that would be welcoming to us non -breeders/ non-show type people? Is it a waste of time for us to even go? Are us non "show" people/dogs even welcome? Thanks. And ooops- it looks like I posted this in the wrong section. Could one of the mods be so kind as to move it to the "show" section? Thanks. |
There will be lots of things there. It is a big show, so you will have a lot of vendors. Show people are pet people first and the vendors know this. There are vendors for toys, bedding, covers, leashes, bows, carriers, brushes, shampoos, magnets, dog books from breeds to training or even poetry about dogs, jewerly, food dishes, pet photography, pet painters/illustrators, tapestry pillows, and so so much more. There are also different food vedors, so you can get breakfast through dinner there, even a great ice cream vendor there. Oh, and dog food vendors will be there with even samples. Non-show people are very welcomed. My daughter is coming and also her friend. They do not show but do have pets of their own. |
Ohhhhhhhh you need to go!!! You'll have so much fun! If it's like Tina said you'll have so much fun shopping at the vendors!!! Dog shows are for everyone!! It's encouraged non show people attend!! Go attend :) Donna |

What about little regional shows? Do they have vendors too? :p I already saw, no dogs allowed that aren't entered per AKC rules, but I'd still love to see a show. There's one near me on Aug 14th. :) |
FYI - If you do not have a dog entered there are some guidelines: per program page 12- *Unentered dogs will be allowed in the building only if in crates in grooming area. (I guess not at ringside) * No Dogs Are Allowed In The Eatting Arears Or Restrooms. |

That no dogs allowed not entered is a pretty standard rule for dog shows. If you can try to go with someone who knows how the show process works that would be great. If not some suggestions. You can look up the judging schedule on-line, usually it is posted about 7 days prior the show date, that way you can see when the Yorkies go on, and how many Yorkies are entered. Often times the entry is free to visitors, or maybe a $5 or $10 fee. If you can't find the judging schedule on-line the show rarely starts before 9am. Once you get to the show grounds, there is usually a catalogue you can buy, again reasonable rates, that will tell you not only what ring the Yorkies are being judged in, but the time of the judging, the number of dogs by each class, and the exact information of which dog is entered. |

It is a sport..or suppose to be..go and have fun! Vendors depend on pet lovers to spend lots of money. I love to watch any breed show...some areas have terrfic food...BBQ's..enjoy! |

Yes go to the AKC website www.akc.org, on the menu on top of screen you can click on events, a map of states comes up, then click on your state, and it will give you all dog shows for that state for one year, You want to look at AB stands for All breed shows, cause some shows are only for certain dogs, or groups of dogs to enter, and some shows are obedience or rally shows. |
