How do y'all raise them
 

I can't seem to find much info around here about once the pups start to get older. My large litter is 7 weeks old today. i have them in an xpen with their sleeping side on one end, playing/food side in the middle and the restroom on the other end...

they play with each other throughout the day and a few times a day i let them out of the xpen to run around and play in my room with my other dog too so they can start socializing etc.

when i come in the room they immediately know im there or when i'm wakng up etc and just cry and cry for about 10 minutes before they either give up and start playing with each other or if its time to let them out i do so.

i was wondering how you guy (schedule wise) are raising yours, do you let them out to play (i watch them like a hawk even though the room is puppy proof they still manage to want to climb and find things and turn puppy pads into a play thing they have toys..) but i dont know if me ignoring their cries when i come in the room is bad or how often i should be letting them out, they are pretty good with using restroom on the pads at the back but when i let them out only half of them will return to the pads the other half i find just pee where ever. i was just wondering how things go when they are this old if i need to get other people in here to socialize too just how does your day go with the 7 weekers. thanks!

Hi I have a 7 week old pup.
She sleeps in her crate at night and I am training her on puppy pads at the moment.
She usually cried once in the night at around 2am to go potty, I let her out and as soon as shes gone I put her straight back in the crate.
If she cried I egnore her and she soon goes back to sleep, she then wakes up crying at around 7am for her breakfast which I give her then we have potty time, 10minutes cuddle time and then she usually falls back asleep for a few hours so I put her in her crate.
Through out the day I have her downstairs to play with a puppy pad and her food and water present.
She plays in the living room with her toys and has only ever had 1 or 2 accidents.
I also have a play pen with a small bed and puppy pad in just incase I need to leave the room and I cant take her with me, that way she is safe and I know where she is :)

I don't think puppies should ever have access to any carpet at all. Once they have peed on carpet, then it's ingrained in them for life. They will always soil a carpet given the chance. I would only let them in a room that has no carpet or rug, for playing. The lady I got my first two from has a bedroom set up for the puppies when they get to be two or three months old, and have learned what a pee pad is all about first.

I have 7 week puppies also and it is difficult sometimes. I get a 7am howling too.:) There is always the one who screams the most. I try to ignore her but after 10min I usually give in. I have a seperate area for potty also. They were all doing really good until I expanded their play area. I am trying to get them to go potty as soon as they wake up and 10min after they eat. I have the same problem as you, 2 of them use the potty area and 2 of them go anywhere.:);) Good Luck to you!

Mine have their own special nursery/playroom. They start in xpens about 6 weeks and work on pad training, etc. When they're closer to 8-9 weeks they start getting out to play in the whole playroom and I work on socializing them more. I do not give them free run of the house until after they have completed ALL their puppy shots and are a little bigger. Usually by that time all or most have gone to their forever homes (by 16 weeks or so), and if there is one or two left they then get free run during the day in the house with my adults. They are too young at this age to understand boundaries. Training needs to start in small spaces and work up as they grow and master each area.

ok so i should keep them in the xpen then until they have the puppy pads thing down. i dont let them run around the house just the room and yep i'm having issues with half of them not returning to the pads in the xpen. grr lol. but they are soo hilarious in the room when they create their own race corse around things and literally run the whole length of the room just to tackle something. (the area that isnt taking up my bed is only 10ft x 4ft with me sitting in the middle
