Fighting female
 

Hi All~

I have 2 females...one was recently in heat & bred. A few weeks before her heat cycle, she started fighting with my other girl--normally her best friend. It hasnt stopped...I have them separated and occasionally try to reintroduce them to each other to see if they can get along. So far this hasnt worked. The one who was bred is the problem and is starting the fights. I feel so bad for the innocent one and she misses her friend. I know this is normal behavior for a moody bitch around her heat cycle, but she didnt do this last year.

Any suggestions? How do you keep your girls from fighting? Do you think she'll get past this??

It might just be hormones but I wouldn't take any chances and keep them separte at all time. It only takes a few seconds for one to get hurt or your girl lose the litter.

I just gave my aunt one of my girls. I couldn't get passed the fighting and she offered her a great home with no other pets.

Sorry I don't have any advice on how to stop it.

i'm soo sorry this is happening to you! two of my girls had this problem... missy and kitty were got 6 months appart- missy mothered kitty from day 1 as she had her 1st season shortly after, but the season after she'd had a litter, missy started attacking kitty - it seemed completely unprovoked!
i cant offer any way to stop this though; i called out a dog behaviour expert who tried all her different methods to stop this- i then moved out with kitty, kuki and bambi and we now live with my gran and her babies!
i am going to start introducing missy and kitkat gradually over the next few months- they are fine on neutral territory- and when my mum isn't there... i have now realised it was pure jelousy. missy wasn't happy that mum loved her and kitty equally- especailly because she was in season.
i know that not everyone can simply move out with one dog- but if you take them to a park they have never visited before and make them run side by side on strained leads until they are really tired, then take them home and see what happens; after getting home do not make a fuss of either- or pick up both and talk to both at the same time... they can be very jelous little dogs!

i hope this is of some benefit to you- this is the process i'm going through at the moment.

It started after my youngest went into her first heat but never stopped after. I tried everything to make peice with them. I was afraid one was going to kill the other. I would seperate them behind closed doors but would worry the whole time I was gone. I finally decided it was not fair for them to have to take turns being seperated from everyone and place Jasmine with my Aunt. My house is now pieceful again. I don't have any problems with any other of my females. It broke my heart to give her up. I have never had to do that.

Wow-that appears to be a really big longterm problem.

I'll try to arrange a vacation for one of them. That must have been so hard to rehome your girls. I dont want to do that and I will try everything to get them to be friends again.

After rehoming a girl, did you try to reintroduce them again? if so, how did it go?

Be very careful with them, since the apha girl can and will kill the other. They can cause bruising that will bleed to their internal organs. So do not ever leave them alone togeher.

Over the years I have had some females that just would not get along with other females. They would be fine at first and then the fights would start. Some females just don't like other females, period. All my females get testy to some degree when they are in heat and sometimes they have little scuffles but nothing serious. If your females are fighting to the point to where they are drawing blood then it is time to separate them and keep them separated, it is not worth the risk of one of them getting seriously injured. Also, it is not good for the female that was bred to be fighting and getting stressed out.

I've been keeping them separate. Nobody has been injured. Just hope she gets over her moodiness.
