Doing it the Right Way! I've just finished reading this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...ally-come.html and I must say, I'm very impressed that the reputable breeders here still have the energy and patience to try and educate ignorant people. I say ignorant because if you ignore great advice, that's what you are. I've loved and owned dogs all my life. My parents, due to ignorance, used to be backyard breeders of Staffies and although they did a great job with these hardy dogs, I still don't agree with what they did. They bred dogs without any thought to genetics, etc. I got my first female yorkie last year and I planned to breed her, until I got some excellent advice from Mardelin, stating that you need a mentor and the right breeding stock. My female, June, has now been sterilized without even having one heat cycle because she doesn't meet the breed standard. I found a great mentor, bought the books and did the research. I have been researching the yorkie breed for at least three hours a day for more than 4 years and I still have so much to learn. So, I spend a lot of time on the breeding section to learn from the great breeders. We have to import breeding stock because the yorkies in SA aren't up to standard and although we are going to pay a lot of money for these doggies, it is totally worth it to do it in the right way! We want to breed to improve the breed in SA, for no other reason. I still have a few years before I am going to breed, but I just want to thank all the great breeders here, especially Mardelin, who pointed me in the right direction! One day, I'll have a breeding program that I can be proud of.:D |
Great post Marilize. You really have to admire Mardelin's patience, eh? I'm sure that when you do start breeding, you will be so glad you took the time to research in advance. I'm sure that your dogs will be beautiful and can't wait to follow your journey. :) |
SEE.........there are people listening!! And not taking our bluntness as being rude and having to play nicey nice! GREAT POST!!!! I believe you'll be a great breeder when the time comes!!! Now...I wish more would pay attention! Donna |
Great post! It's wonderful to hear you are satisfied with nothing but the right way. :D Best of luck! :) |
Ah, thank you. Maybe one day, I'll be one of the best :) I accept nothing less than that for my dogs :p I hope the reputable breeders stay here and help us out. You are making a big difference  even though you get bashed sometimes. I'm fighting the same fight with other dog owners here and even though they mostly don't listen, if one person does, it's worth it because you save the dog. |
Thank you for this post. I just wish more people would stop and think before they put their dogs lives at risk just because they want to. Breeding is not an easy thing to do. It's definitely an emotional roller coaster. Granted I have only been doing this for a short time, but I am glad I took the time before hand to learn alot and I am still learning. |

Also a while ago there was a lot of bad arguing... it became a little unpleasant to read most of the threads . Healthy discussion is so good... but some people just argue and most of the time those do not even have experience on what they are arguing about. So sad. I hope YT gets better and better with time ! It is nice to have a good place where people share the same love for a breed. XOXO |
