I'm afraid her milk is drying up My yorkie just had puppies 10 days ago. I am afraid her milk might be drying up. Can some one please tell me how I will know if it has. WHen they suck, they are sucking really hard and pulling on the nipple. THis is her first litter, and I'm not sure how they do. SHe is very much a momma's girl and she follows me every where. She isnt spend alot of time with them like she was. |

I also feed her the whelping pudding that is posted at the top of this section. She will only eat soft foods for now so I try to give her what she likes till she starts eating normal again. They are much like us when we have children. We also need extra food consumption to increase our milk supply when nursing. It is the same for our yorkies. Make sure to spend time with her while she is with the pups and bring her back to them if she has left them for long periods. My momma leaves for 1min then rushes back to make sure they aren't crying. Good luck. |
I am a bit confused as to why you bred your baby girl to begin with. By the sounds of your post you are not a reputable breeder and have no experience and have not done any homework on caring for your dog and her babies. With that said I am sure your dogs milk has not dried up IF your puppies have full stomachs and are resting quietly they should be okay. I would try to keep the Mom with the babies at 10 days old the babies can not regulate their own heat and should be kept exstremely warm. Also the babies cannot pee or poop without the Mom's help and if she is following you around the house she is not concentrating on nor is she properly taking care of the babies. You need to make sure she is gettin the proper food and vitamins. Good luck! |

You can always supplement her calcium intake by adding a boiled egg in the morning and a table spoon of low fat cottage cheese in the afternoon, that alone will increase milk production ... plenty of good nutritious food and quiet, stress free environment ! XOXO |
