I'm afraid her mild is drying up My Yorkie just had puppies 10 days ago. I'm afraid that her milk might be drying up. How can I tell? This is her first litter. WHen the puppies eat the are sucking really hard and pulling. SHe is a momma's girl really bad, and she isnt wanting to stay for a very long time with them like she was. If any one can tell me how to tell please let me know I wouled really appreciate it. |
If the puppies are growing, sleeping and not crying, then your bitch has plenty of milk. If they are not growing, awake and crying, then they are not getting enough milk. |
Thank you so much. They are gaining the weight, and the dont cry alot except when she first gets out of her box with them. But I was really worried. Thanks |
Happy jack milkade this stuff works wonders it says to start giving it before the puppies arrive but you can start giving it to her now, so she doesn't dry up to soon. I get at the farmers co-op or TSC farm supply. you can order it on line but I think it would be best to get it asap. good luck. |
It is normal for the pups to suck hard and pull the teat. Like Rose said, as long as the pups are content and growing then mom probably has plenty of milk. Just make sure mom is eating plenty of good food throughout the day. How many pups is she nursing? As the pups get older the mom will be spending less and less time with them. Also, if you haven't done it already, make sure their toenails are cut. Puppy nails get really sharp and that can make things very uncomfortable for the momma. I use small people nail clippers to clip off the sharp points. |
