Extra Tiny... 2.7 oz. at 8 days old This being my first time raising an extremely small baby...this little one is 8 days old today and only weights 2.7 ounces!! Baby is very active and eating good... If any of you breeders have experience raising this small..I would love to hear your tips and advice. I have left this baby with undocked tail in hopes to not bring any stress... She seems very healthy ...just very tiny.... |
Wow! That is tiny!! My Napoleon was 6oz at birth!! Was she an only baby? Sounds like she is thriving! No advice to give! Just wishing you luck!! :-) |
Thanks!, no , she came from a litter of 3 but she is the only surviver... |
I also have a tiny...at 2 weeks she weighed in at a whopping 3 5/8 ounces. She was the 2nd baby born out of a litter of 5. She is doing great, I had been supplmenting her momma feedings with bottle feeding about every 4 hours (was 2 hrs.) now only because everyone else is 10 - 13 ozs and pigs!!! Just make sure she is gaining..I still weigh her every feeding just to be sure. God Bless, you will do fine. |

I know with this tiny ones ,it takes longer to gain weight...is your baby gaining weight everyday? |
1 Attachment(s) She gains alittle everyday. She hates taking the bottle at first then usually latches on. She don't take alot but, it's enough to make me happy:) The picture was taken when she was 10 days old |
I just got over the hump with a tiny in my current litter. I would suggest supplementing her using a syringer or eye dropper. The little ones get tired of sucking really quickly. With the syringer or eye dropper you can offer milk without tiring effect. And, you can monitor just how much she's getting. I would also suggest feeding every two hours. I use equal parts water with condensed goat milk. Weight gain will be slow at first, but it will pick up. My little guy only gained .1 oz daily for about a week. GOOD LUCK and keep us posted!!! |

I usually have one that is 2 or 2.2 oz and I have to keep a close eye on them at that size. I usually suppliment for a few days until they start gaining. What was her weight at birth? Is she gaining well? If she's gaining and nursing I would not be as concerned.... |
I had one in my last litter at 2 oz, by day 5 it was up to 6 oz. So tail docking went on schedule. I groomed him today at 9 months of age. He's a whopping 6 pounds. |
For several years I had the curse of the tinies..Teri Shumsky told me about Nutra Drops..used it with all my wee puppies. I am not a fan of eye droppers etc. Seen too many people kill their pups..I perfer tube feeding. Wishing you all the best. PS..I removed the tails/claws on thriving puppies, no matter the size..no problems, but I did it and not the vet..clamp method, no blood or stitching.. |

Birth weight was 2.2 oz ...she does nurse very good, very active , if I don't suppliment it is very difficult for her to gain . Since she only wants to nurse..I'm managing to use the dropper and put drops of formula as she nurses..it looks like she loves that, I see her little tail up and she keeps on sucking very strong..loves all that milk :D she is up to 2.8 oz and has a full belly. |

Gidget was 2 oz at birth and at 8 days she was exactly 5 oz, but she did gain a little bit every day. She is 10 months now and still small at 3 lbs 12 oz but I can see she has a lot more filling out to do and should wind up over 4 lbs. Her brother, Sebi, was bigger than Gidget at birth and was 5.6 ounces at 8 days. He's actually smaller than Gidget in size but not nearly as thin. At week three they both really took off and were gaining well every day. Good luck with your little baby. :) |

Just be careful with the tiny one and watch it carefully. Ive not bred dogs but Ive had kittens and its always a struggle to keep the runt alive if it is much smaller than the rest |
I have tiny ones in my litters from time to time. I am tube feeding one right now and at almost 5 weeks she is 6.5 ounce. She was just under 2 ounces at birth and has gained slowly each week. I fed her every 2 hours for the first week, then every 3 hours for the next week, now I feed her every 4 hours but increased the amount per feeding. I raised a tiny like this exactly 1 year ago, my little Emma the same way. She is 1 and weighs just under 2 pounds. I would like to not have these tinies, I much prefer the robust 4-5 ounce babies at birth that look like little frog bellies each time they feed and gain fast. Good luck with your little one. Keep us updated. |

Baby is eating good, seems healthy and is up to 2.9 oz today. |
Good luck with your tiny one. I'm so happy that you didn't dock it's tail. My Zoey has a longer tail and I love it. The wiggles are just too cute. Cherie |
Baby is up to 3.1 oz , doing good....she is 12 days old..we are waiting for her eyes to open. |
Oooh, sorry to hear the rest did not make it. Glad to hear this one is hanging on and gaining weight. Love the idea of the undocked tail, I bet it looks cuuute! |

I really don't see her growing but looking at her pictures ..it looks like she has been growing. Praying she keeps healthy for us....will be adding weekly pictures. |
