she is not a yorkie but I need breeders opinion Maddie is a very beautiful shihtzu and very smart she is 1 1/2 yrs old and has an imbilical hernia I have her an appointment to spay on wed. The issue is I always thought I would breed her when she was 5 so I could have one baby from her but lasvegas law say pets must be spayed at 4 months new law. I agree to many stupid owners cause big problems and not sure what the complications with imbilical hernia can cause. I repeat my reasons to breed is for only one puppy so Im not sure its the right thing to do I could get a breeders license if need be but Im more concerned about my maddie any opinions feel free to say whatever Im thick skinned. |
Umbilical hernias are considered hereditory therefore she should not be bred. |
First I'm glad your doing research instead of doing something on impulse. If you want another pup consider one from a shelter or a reputable breeder. I think your baby is too precious if something goes wrong. Also 5 yrs is too old for her to have pups. |
thanks i just love her and I wanted another excatly like her but not enough to put her at risk I didnt care about her puppy having a hernia all would have benn spayed begore leaving but since 5 is to old and I dont want a puppy now guess it wont happen is there a danger with a hernia. |
Without even addressing any of the other points you brought up... 5 years is too old for a female to be bred for the first time. It would pose severe risks of complications for your girl. At that age, their pelvic structure is 'set' and will not 'adjust' to accomodate a growing litter in her belly. For that reason alone, I would suggest that breeding her, even once, not even be up for consideration. |

Do you know what an umbilical hernia is? It's a opening where the abdominal contents protrude through the abdominal wall. There are varying degrees...some are worse than others. It is possible to have an intestinal loop strangulation...meaning it protrudes out the hole and doesn't retract. She'd be much healthier and happier if you spayed and had her hernia repaired. Enjoy her for the pet she is. |

You could repair the hernia and breed her before 3 yrs and if there are any pups with hernia's you can repair those also, all in the hopes of getting a puppy exactly like your female...chances are slim. Why not save yourself and your female all the trouble and worry of a litter and buy a nice puppy? |
