Won't breed Okay breeders lets here what your answers are. I have a 3 year old parti yorkie. She has had one litter a year ago. She fought me tooth and nail last year when trying to get her bred and finally with alot of sweat equity on my part we managed one tie. This time same thing, what is wrong with her. The days are right she flops that little tail over backs up to the male and when he gets a little to close to "that part" she goes crazy trying to get away from him. Im at my wits end with her. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
It happens...luckily not often for me. I would try a soft muzzle, it has a passive effect on some...AI works for a friend who encounters this problem from time to time. Does she have a good temperament... high strung and hyper? IF she is I would spay her... |
is it neccessary that you breed this girl? Something isn't right or she wouldn't act that way. I have never agreed with 'forcing' a dog to breed...let nature take it's course and if it doesn't maybe you should consider spaying her and placing her in a pet home. |

Well I don't agree here. If I let nature take its course I would never get 1 tie. I have to hold the female and help the male if he is smaller. I didn't even get a tie with Jasmine last time because she was so wiggly. I had to get help while I held her and my husband held my boy...only got an outside tie with that..but she is due in about a week. She might not be ready. Most of my girls I don't even try until 12 days. I would suggest using a little Kyjelly on her. Some of my girls do not have alot of discharge and they seem dry. They think they want it but it doesn't feel good after they get it. |
If it's meant to be it will happen...if not it shouldn't be forced in my opinion. Case in point...Molly & Murfee...first time for both of them, one quick tie after Murfee being a mis directed goofball for days ...results: 3 healthy, beautiful Biewer boys who are now making their new families happy. We didn't hold either of them until after the tie and that was to be sure they didn't get hurt because they were on the top step of our front deck. |
Most girls don't act like that, I wonder if the act of breeding is causing her pain in some way? You might consider getting her examined by a vet to rule out a stricture or other obstruction that would cause her pain when the male started to penetrate. If she delivered naturally last time without any problems and there is something causing her pain during breeding you may have to have an AI done if it is imperative that you breed this girl. Anyway, I would have her examined by a vet. Good luck, Teresa |
I agree with WV~Yorkies. She may be too early and really not ready yet. I have girls tease the boys just like that for days before they are REALLY ready. It can be confusing. I usually wait until day 14 then every other day until not accepting the male. I also use KY on my girls and it seems to help. Good luck. |

Let me add...she is a very spoiled momma's girl...and sometimes this can have an effect on how some females react to natural experiences with other dogs such as mating's. Just because a female may have a quirky behavior during breeding doesn't mean something is wrong with her or her temperament. The soft muzzle and AI are great suggestions. |
What is a "forced" breeding...a soft muzzle, holding the back end of the bitch and getting a good grip when they tie as not to break the tie too soon? I know a breeder who has a hands off policy...50% of her bitches never breed.. I have had a few girls who never liked a male near them...and they had many lovely puppies with me being a bit firm with them... |

Anyways, toy breeds need assistance ! As my vet says: "if it were not for human intervention many of these wonderful breeds would no longer exist!" many times we need to assist, my male is smaller than my females, he needs help... some females get way too excited WHEN they are in heat and i calm them down , specially my husband near makes them slow down. Just adding my experience there . Blessings, XOXO |
Just an update on my original post. She is officially bred!!!!! Many thanks to you Karen for the helpful info. Turns out thay like to do things in the open air. LOL!!! Again Thanks to all with the helpful advice. |
