Know of any breeders with this look I have posted this before but didnt get much response but thought I'd try again. I am wanting to get a male yorkie next yr(Feb or March) and am searching for a breeder who has yorkies with a richer/darker coat color. Skittles coat is a silvery color( would you call is blue) and her head is gold, so I want my male to be the opposite. I really like the look of a yorkie with a dark streak thru the topknot. I've found 2 breeders but am still keeping my options open and wanting to talk to other breeders. I'd really like to find one who is close but am not limiting myself, not to mention I havent found one close by that I am interested in enough to go and just look. I want one smaller than Skittles, so in the 3-4lb range, short body, opposite coat color of Skittles(think I have pics on the gallery), laid back, willing to be bossed around by Skittles, good bite, no health problems, full registration(akc), no price limit as of yet, lol. Any suggestions, links to site would be great too. |
There is no way any one can tell the adult colors of a Yorkie. The best we can do is guesstimate the adult traits. I have had a female be as you describe til she was 18 months before her color changed from very dark gray/blue to the lighter steel blue color on her body. Her facial color stayed the same. The qualities you are seeking will be near impossible to find if you are not buying an adult dog. Sometimes, a breeder will retire a dog that they have used as stud for some reason. That dog should be in adult coat already and you can be sure of what you are getting. When buying a Yorkie puppy you pay your money and take your chances. Any breeder who is trying to sell you a puppy, that would guarantee either adult color or size is not being altogether truthful. If you will not be happy with any dog other than what you have described, please look for an adult about whom there is no doubt.. |
Have to agree with Whisper's Mom. As a pup you can't tell what color they will end up being. I think if you were wanting a puppy though, I would try getting one that both parents are black. That's still no guarantee, but you might have a better chance in getting a darker colored Yorkie. Also, the breeder may know what color her puppies ended up being when grown. So keep posting. |
I purposly sought out to buy my second yorkie, Bitsy, and looked for an adult so that I would know the size and color and if I were going to purchase another (which i'm not becasue I would be in the doghouse for sure :D ) I would prefer to buy an adult. You can't go wrong with size and color that way and there is no guessing:) I highly reccomend it :) |
Have you looked at Laura's site www.gardenyorkies.com Her Yorkies are very dark. If your on the site check out Daisy. |
Good Luck in finding what you are looking for. :) |
I have seen that look in the adults that yorkmont yorkies has. |
Whispermom I realize there is no guarantee that a puppy will have those colors as an adult. But I am hoping if I find parents or at least 1 parent who has the look I am wanting that it will help my chances. And I know I'm rolling the dice, and I'm willing to take that chance. Thank you ladies for yor insight. |
SoCal Yorkmont yorkie, out of ATL right? If so, I have looked at the site, and the sire is handsome. I dropped her an email not too long ago, I will follow up on it and see what she has. |
Feminvstr has a very nice male cappy- who is very dark blue and a dark gold who sires beautiful puppies. He is visiting me right now. I bred one of my gal's to him to try and add that look and coat to my program. She may have something coming up that will work and I will have my kid's out of Tonya. Pictures of Cappie can be seen on Feminvstr's website along with some older puppies that he has sired. I have a picture of him on my website also. Kathy |
I have no real advice, I just wanted to add that I think Kimberly's (feminvstr) puppies are adorable and she is a lovely, reputable breeder. Good luck on your puppy search. |
