That's good you got Mom in when you did. You sound like you were handling things so well at home, I think you probably could have gone ahead and delivered the other pups. Sorry for the one that didn't make it though, that is so sad. But just think you still have 3 pups to sell and make up that money you spent on the emergency c-section. Hey it's great you got a little nap too:rolleyes: |
Oh my god! What an ordeal. I'm glad mom is fine. |
oh my! How scary that must've been! I assume that she had problems with the delivery because of her age? Poor baby! I'm glad she is spayed now, sounds like you did the right thing and now once she has these puppies raised she can be a spoiled little princess. Not that she wasn't before... I agree with Barb on the 1% milk. There is a recipe on here called whelping pudding. I'm sorry, I don't have it off the top of my head but I'm sure you can do a search and easily find it. Now just make sure she get's enough calcium and food in general. Good luck on your babies! By the way, how big were they? |
Good luck and I'm glad along with others that she's spayed now....Hope the surviving puppies are doing well - that whole thing would have freaked me out. Which is why I never entertained the thought of breeding - too many what if's - and with her age etc - things could easily have gone the other way you had a close call. all the best to mom !! |

Whelping Pudding "Terri Shumsky's "whelping pudding" recipe. It will help the milk come in and it is good for your mother if she is not eating/feeling well. Mix large 4 cup size vanilla pudding, 1/2 cup sugar, 4 cups of milk, and 4 egg yolks. Cook on low heat to pudding consistency and offer to new mother at body temperature. She can eat as much as she wants. Has never caused diarrhea and brings in abundance of milk!!! OR from scratch... mix the following in a saucepan and cook to pudding consistency. 2/3 cup sugar 6 tablespoons cornstarch 1/2 teas salt 4 cups milk (or one can evap milk plus equal parts water to make quart) 4 egg yolks 3 teasp vanilla. feed with syringe, on spoon, or let eat from bowl. full of protein and nourishment....have never had it cause diarrhea." I saved this one other time, when I saw it. |
Great to hear that all went pretty well considering! You'll have to post pics of your new little ones! |
~That is so sad about the one little puppy not making it. I am glad the others are healthy and doing well, as is the mommy. Sorry the Vet was giving you a really hard time about the money situation at a time like that. |
