How Do I know This Place is Reputable?
 
I need help. How do I know if this place is reputable? How do I know it's not puppy mill related? What questions do I need to ask?

Toy Puppies, Designer Puppies | Baton Rouge, LA

I really prefer a female baby and don't see any there but gosh would I love to rescue one.

Any help greatly appreciated.

They are advertising designer dogs. That in itself says it all. They breed 5 different breeds. Plus designers. Looks like a mill to me.

There are people on here that are associated with yorkie Haven Rescue. Contact ladyjane for information.

So you are saying all designer breeds probably come from puppy mills?

Oh they sell their puppies out of a store? That is horrible. Definitely either a mill or a broker.

usually if they are selling more than 2 kinds of breeds that is a bad sign.
A breeder is just that they breed in a particualr breed. To be a good breeder there is a lot of knowledge involved in that particular breed. I don't see how you could have all that knowledge in 10 different breeds.

All designer dogs arent from mills but almost all petstore puppies are.

Look for either a rescue or a good breeder, stay away from pet stores. :)

Puppy brokers are people or companies who buy from different breeders and sell through pet stores and websites. The contract out with breeders and usually the breeders run puppy mills, but they are always commercial breeder, who breed as a business. A reputable breeder would NEVER sell her dogs this way; a reputable breeder cares about which homes her dogs are placed. A reputable breeder feels responsible for all the offspring that the dog's she sells produces, and ALWAYS sells pets on a spay and neuter contract.

I've heard many great things about Yorkiehaven rescue, and highly recommend looking for a pet there.

My thoughts exactly! Best to do your research up front!

I wouldn't touch that store/site with a ten foot pole for all the reasons already listed!

I would absolutely check out Yorkie Haven rescue!! What a wonderful way to add to your family and save a little life!

I agree with what everyone said and also want to add, DON'T BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM THAT STORE EITHER! No beds, toys, food, anything. Anything you buy from them supports them and in turn supports puppymills and brokers.

Reputable breeders breed for the betterment of the breed and would NEVER mix breeds to make a designer dog. EVER!

Anyone that is selling puppies in a strip mall is getting their supply from a mill.

Of course YHR is a GREAT choice~~check out my siggy :D

You are not going to find a lot of Yorkie puppies in rescue. Fill out an application on the YHR site if you are interested in adopting.

You can also look at YTCA for a list of good breeders. Make sure you do your homework. Good luck in your search :)

Thank you. I've already found 2 people in the area via networking who may have something available to me. I already have one "designer dog", so I'll form my own opinion on that. However, I will NOT go to that place to get another.

Both my boys are Yorkie/Maltese mixes but they are both rescues. Doodlebug was a puppy when we adopted him and Bogey was around a year old. They are in my avatar. :)

Yes, good advice!
There is a chain of pet stores near us that sell a food we were interested in, but I won't buy ANYTHING from them because they sell puppies!

I have decided to sign up with Yorkie Haven Rescue and devote the next few months to finding a rescue.

I'm seeking a female baby - a little girl for my Coopy dog.

Good luck finding your new addition! Sounds like you are a responsible and consciencious owner who not only cares about a new addition but supporting an ethical breeder or rescue! The ladies at yorkie haven rescue are angels. They are very knowledgeable and will definitely educate you fast in what to not buy! Wishing you all the best and can't wait to hear about your new little one! :-)
