Question about papers Is it a common practice for the breeder to require that a puppy be spayed / neutered prior to sending the A.K.C. paperwork to the new owner? |
Yes it is! Very common!:) |

7) Purchasers will be required to neuter/spay all puppies sold as pets. If specified in the written sales contract, the seller will promptly release limited registration forms upon receipt of a veterinarian's certification of such spaying or neutering. It appears your breeder only has their puppies welfare at heart. |
Yup, it should be done more than it's done :) I never release papers until the spay/neuter is done in the past but now my pets will be spayed/neutered before leaving my house. Donna |
It's not at all uncommon. Reputable breeders tend to place dogs on s/n agreements and often hold papers until it has been proven to have been done. |
I adopted my Lola at 6.5+mo old and this was last month...she was not spayed and was never asked to do so...she has her akc papers..I was going to register her too. Is there something I should know? I dont want her fixed. |

Whether or not you have to "have" her spayed depends on the agreement (if there was one) between yourself and your breeder. |
All of our puppies are typically sold on a spay/neuter agreement and no papers are sent until I receive proof of spay/neuter from the owners veterinarian. I have also neutered a male prior to leaving. Any puppies we sell on open registration would more than likely be held for close to 6 months depending whether they are sold for breeding/show. |
Thanks for all the answers, I was just asking if I was to expect any issues from Akc since my papers were given to me ,without any agreement or her fixed while adopted to me. The previous owners adopted her direct from a breeder here in Ohio. And she had no intent of breeding her... I may with my mother in laws puppy but hers is one month older and not 'ready' yet it seems lol but its an idea...I just dont want her fixed. My other two furbabies are fixed and were before 3 months of age. 1 boy 1 girl |
