How do I know I calculated the due date right? My Molly is due today. All is well, but she shows no signs of labor. Her temperature was 100.0-100.5 over the past week and has been averaging about 99.3-99.5 for the past two days. I've been eagerly awaiting a more drastic drop :p. Here's my real question. Molly and daddy-to-be are both mine and live together. The time span between the FIRST time they connected to the LAST time they connected was NINE DAYS. Most due date predictors say to use the FIRST mating date as a reference, which makes her due date today. My question is, is it possible that I have calculated her due date as being too early? I don't want to worry, but I also don't want to allow her to be too overdue if she doesn't deliver tonight (all the signs are indicating she most likely wont). At what point would most of you consider this litter to be overdue and bring her to the vet? |
Dogs are never overdue..at least not IMO.. Puppies come when ready and not all at 63 days or whatever...I have never in all these decades not had a bitch go into whelp, show signs of impending birth..since you have no idea of the actual due date IMO you have no worries as yet. If your bitch is eating, acting normal, no abnormal discharge, not restless etc etc etc.. no signs of any trouble, just wait it out. |
The only was really to know when she ovulated is to have had her progesterone tested at that time. So yes, you could very well actually be due 9 days from now or even later. Have you had xrays? I would keep in touch with the vet for advice on if she is over due or not... Good luck! |
Thanks guys. No, I have not had xrays done. From what I can feel when they move and hear with heartbeats I estimate there are 3 (pretty sure I am correct). I started being able to feel them moving about a week ago, now today they are SUPER strong. Rolling, kicking and shifting around, they definitely are not weaklings - her belly looked like it had waves in it this morning, the entire thing was rippling up and down from the babies. Every once in a while there would be a strong kick and a little bit of skin would jump out quite far. Judging by this I assume they are healthy and not underdeveloped (strength-wise), it feels like they are doing aerobics in there at times. I assume that they are ready lol, but only time will tell. |
what was her temp this morning? |

99.5 around 12:00 noon (again) She gets restless at nights, I've heard her digging frequently in her bed during the last two nights and gets very clingy for her bed in the evenings. Shes been following me everywhere this morning but otherwise its business as usual (she often follows me so this isn't that abnormal). The wait is killing me....I know it could be a day or two still but I'm too excited! |

Her due date could be anytime within the week. For future reference, breeding over such a long period of time is NOT recommended. You need to do progesterone testing, determine when her most fertile days are and only breed then within a 3-4 day timespan. |
