Puppy Sold with Parvo? Or so I'm assuming. A friend of mine recently purchased a Yorkie puppy and around three days later the puppy ended up terribly sick - tested positive for Parvo. (Actually the littermate to mine, who is fine.) The puppy is currently undergoing treatment. My question is this: Should my friend ask for her money back? Now mind you the puppy was sold unpapered at a cheap price, but to have a puppy turn around three days later and test positive for Parvo? Should the seller be obligated to return her money? The puppy was sold UTD on shots and worming, or so she/we were told. What do you all think? |
Was there a contract? What state did you buy the puppies in? |

Here is the link where I got the above information from: Parvovirus: Serious Diarrhea in Puppies & Dogs Problem is - the virus keeps mutating. I would certainly take your pup into the vet to be tested too since incubation can be up to 14 days before signs show. Also be sure to let the breeder know. Also dogs can still die of this. Did you guys get a health record of the shots and when they were given? If not - you should have and also the vet that was seeing the pups and giving the shots. And yes, you should be able to give the pup back and get your money back since it is within the 3 days. Did the breeder give you guys a guarantee though? |
Unpapered, cheap..I think she pretty much got what she paid for...sorry the puppy is ill...and if it was UTD on shots, worming your friend should have gotten a well puppy health cert from the breeders vet ..this would have been given at the time of the sale... I would tell the breeder about the parvo..but she probably knows already. |

Arkansas has puppy Lemon Laws if that is where you bought the dog. The Puppy Lemon Law | What Puppies Are Covered? |
Apparently she had an unpapered male who accidently hooked with with one of her papered females. I have very casually known this breeder for several years. She worked many years for my vet and I've always thought well of her. But to answer some questions, sadly no, there was no health certificate offered and no guarantee of health discussed. The other lady also bought a sister from this same litter and she tested negative. |
I hope the puppy recovers....its' a sad situtation...I'd be asking for the vet expenses or my money back but when one buys cheap unfortunately you will run into these problems. I hope the puppy will be ok the pup is in my prayers. Donna |

Did you read what I posted. It sounds like your friend is protected by the Lemon Laws in your state. She can return the pup if it is within 14 days I believe. It is the law.. |
Question I just thought of: Why is her unpapered dog not neutered/spayed? Tells me a bit about her ethics maybe? |

According the puppy lemon law, she could even ask for vet expense compensation. |

I do wonder what the odds are for only 1 puppy to get parvo out of the group and what about the other dogs? |

I have also noticed that my check for my puppy has not been cashed out. |
