This is by know means negative feed back. The information given to you is in the best interest in your girl. You are unprepared and require much education and study before you embark on breeding program. You also mention you have a small child.....while it can be done, not recommended as breeding/whelping and raising a litter of puppies and caring for their mother requires a lot of time.....it's a full time job....and a sleepless one. |

I went back and read wha your talking about.. yes that was a good conversation about it. but i did get nagetive flack back then. I remember i even got private messages telling me not to be discuraged from the YT website. It may not have been a conversation i had initiated but there was heated debate thzt took place. It may have been in someone elses post or via messages, and i dont know enough about this site to research how to go into the history of what i did then or the messages i recieved about it. But i do rememebr being very upset with some of the things that were said to me and that may have been y i was so strongly on the defense when they first responses started happening. Still i wish someone would have mentioned that when she was 2 back then that that would be my last year and chance to try and breed her and since she only comes in heat once a year that would have been good to know back then.. Is it normal that she only comes in once a year? i sware i rememeber larger breeds of dogs having their cycles a lot more offten, maybe its a smaller breed thing. Reguardless, sounds like i missed the window. I plan to make an apointment to talk with me vet tomarrow and maybe go ahead and fix her.. Anyone know if its a good or bad thing to fix her while shes in heat? I hate to go throught the 2 weeks of doggy diapers for nothing and she hates to wear them. |

You can have her spayed while she's in Season....but, your vet may not want too... |
well thats something to think about. My mom uses my same vet and she has a 3 year old shihtzu that she had spayed last year while she was in heat. I don't rememebr there ever being mention of a greater risk during the durgery if done while she was in heat. Just that it cost more... While money can be issues for some, i think she would have liked to have been informed that it was a more riskier time to do the procedure... dear god another 2 weeks of blah... thanks so much for the info! |
Just for your reference, here are a few sites that mention the downsides/risks of spaying during a dog's heat... All Creatures Animal Hospital - Veterinarian In Cincinnati, OH USA :: Spay during a Heat Cycle What Are the Risks of Spaying During Heat? | eHow.co.uk |
i have heard that its a good idea to breed one time through vets BUT she is too old to start now..having her fixed is the best plan of action |
During the heat cycle, your girl's blood vessels are dilated and there is more bleeding. That is why some vets won't spay during heat. |
I feel much more educated in all of this. Thank u all so much! Well its 10:30 here and i am off to bed. Thanks again for all the info!!! |
