15 months old and no heat cycle? Has anyone ever had this happen? At a year, I just figured she was slower than some, but now she's going to be 15 months old in a few days. Now my younger girl has already had her first cycle, at the more normal age of 10 months. I'm just wondering if I should consider it a health issue and get her checked out? BTW, I enjoyed reading all the posts in JeanieK's post...I learned alot and will be getting some raspberry syrup or tea to keep on hand...thanks for the info! thanks in advance. deb |
I don't think 15 months is "too old", all Yorkies are different and I've seen them come in season as late as 18 months old. I'm sure it will happen soon. Teresa |
Is it possible you could have missed her first heat? Sometimes the first heat is a light heat and she may not of bled much. What type of food are you feeding her? |
Several people have asked if I could have missed her heat, but I'm not sure how I could have. I've been checking her all the time since she turned about 8 months old. I've not seen any swelling or anything. Others have commented she might have had a silent heat with no bleeding. Which could very well be. I am curious how often this happens and if it's ever indicative of a health issue? thank you! deb |
I have had several females come in heat at 7 months. The latest I have ever had one come in heat is 11 months from what I can remember. The reason I asked about what you are feeding her is because I feel that dog foods with soy in them can effect their heat cycle. |
I have a female that did not come into heat for the first time till she was 16 months! Her vulva was about the size of a pencil eraser so I know she had not come in yet. I took her to the vet and she told me that some smaller breed dogs do this and not to worry. The very next week she came in... figures she is a drama queen anyway...lol |
My female didn't come into her 1st heat until she was around 20 months. And she has had 3 litters. Her first when she was 3. She only has 2 heat a year. We bred her that 1st heat since she was almost 2, but she didn't get pregnant. It was her second breeding that she had 4 puppies. So there is hope. Hang in there. ;) |
Thanks again...I really really appreciate hearing everyone's experiences. BTW, I feed them WeeBits. I will have to look at the ingredients. Her vulva looks bigger than it used to be, so I would imagine the silent heat could have happened...so strange. But I chalk each new thing that happens with my dogs as experience! deb |
Just checked the WeeBits bag...absolutely no Soybeans at all. It's a pretty high quality food, I think. Sigh...I will just keep waiting! deb |
My Lola is 17 months and has not had a heat yet either. Well I do think she JUST got it. Her vulva was always so tiny like one previous poster mentioned. But in the last week I have noticed that it has gotten swollen and had a little bit of bloody discharge. It was very little and I haven't seen her bleeding anywhere. I don't know if it is possible but I have my moms female here who also just went into heat 1 week ago. It seems that this has triggered Lolas. They are constantly sniffing each others privates now. |
I was hoping Cassidy's heat cycle would trigger Felicity, but Cass has been out for a couple of weeks now, so no such luck! I'm just glad to hear that this is not completely unheard of . Thanks all. deb |
