Breeding questions My yorkie is 10 months old this is her first heat and her mate accidently got to her last night! Im terrified of her having babies so soon but im trying to get well prepared! If you have any advice please share! This is our first litter ever and We dont know really anything about dogs pregnacies or puppies for that matter. PLEASE HELP!!!! :aimeeyork |
My advice, due to her young age (she is still a pup), would be to have her spayed. That may not be what you'd hoped for, but given the situation, I believe it would be in HER best interest. That's the price breeders have to pay sometimes when accidents happen. |
I agree. She is way to young to safely carry and deliver a litter. Get her spayed ASAP for her safety and well being. Be aware if you chose not spay and continue this pregnancy she is at high risk for a C-section and complications from eclampsia while nursing. Be prepared to spend a minimum of $1500 for a C-section, which seems to be the average costs in most areas. Good luck to you and your girl. I hope you make the right choice for her. |
I definetly agree, 10 months old and first heat is way to young to have puppies |
update Her vet told me she should be okay but in case she will be monitored by a vet and her family during the time she will have them but right now we arent even sure she is pregnant cause my male is one 5 months and his testicals havnt even formed so im not sure of anything right now |

besides, if you do not anything about breeding , don't you think you should be researching and learning before considering getting the dogs? I do not mean to be rude at all... but if you read through the site and find out about the steps to take when you intend to became a great breeder, research comes first , education and a MENTOR... I wish you well and welcome to YT ... i hope you can take the good advice in here and make many friends ! XOXO |

Please, have your female spayed and enjoy her for the pet she should be. And, if you decided to breed, please make the time and effort to learn how to do so responsibly. |

Your girl is not mentally mature or physically mature enough to handle the situation she is in. Are you prepared to lose her.....because it is very well likely it will happen. Contrary to your vet's advice. Your pups testicles are formed, just not seated into place. Absolutely he can sire a litter. However, because of his young age, you will unable to AKC register this litter. |
