is mom drying up Hi - pups are 5 weeks as of yesterday and when they go to nurse they go from tit to tit searching frantickly like they aren't finding any milk... then they will latch on and seem to feed fine for a few minutes... is mama drying up - what recommendation is there for which food to soak and feed the pups now? I feed my dogs Natures Variety which is an all stages food, I put the kibble in the food processor and grind it to a powder mix it with goats milk and put it in a saucer I started doing that at 4 weeks. at 8 weeks I start them on NV soft mixed with the powder and by 12 weeks they are eating kibble mixed with the soft and with this litter I added the raw medallions before I put them to bed and they LOVED it.. mama started limiting the nursing about that time too. hugs, Carmen in nj |
Mom may not be drying up.... but the pups are draining her very fast due to their age. I usually start them on some supplemental foods at this age - teeth should be in enough for that. I offer crushed kibble and sometimes softened kibble first. My challenge is Mom wanting to eat all the puppy's food.... showing them how to eat? or just being a "hoover"...... ? LOL |
