New here and need advice Hello My name is Ann and I am new to your site. I found your site while looking for info on 3 wk old yorkie puppies. I have a Mama Yorkie Cassandra Jewel and Daddy Yorkie Sire Baily Wellington , they have just had thier 2nd litter of puppies, really didnt want her to have anymore puppies for awhile, as she had just has some apporxiamtely 6 mos ago and she was too young herself. But, Wellington got to her, sigh. Anyways , I am very concerned for her new puppies, they are 3 weeks old, and she just has stopped nursing them! I have been trying to get them to drink puppy formula but they dont like the bottle at all! I have put a dish lid down and some will lick at it but they cry alot and its breaking my heart ,I dont want to lose anyone. Mama Cassie did excellent the first time around soo I am very surprised she just stopped taking care of these little ones. I really could use some suggestions on how to get her either to feed them again or what to offer these puppies and how often I should feed them? I really appericate any help. Thanks:aimeeyork |

Thanks Thanks I actually started to do that, I put her on the bed next to me and gave her only 2 puppies at atime and she would stay with them as long as I comforted her and sweet talked to her. I think being such a large litter this time totally has her overwhelemed it seems. I also started giving them formula from a small dish and they have been licking it ,the bottles didnt work and I did go to a sygrine and got some done the puppies but they are getting better with the bowl . Mama is slowly going to them on her own now and then so I guess I will just have to keep a eye and help her out . Poor Girl feel bad for her, it all just happened to soon from her last batch. I will have to get some stud pants to keep this from happening again. I appericate the advice :) |
congratulations on your litter, no stud pants are going to keep him from getting your girl when she is in heat, my stud can get out of a straight jacket if I put him in one, the only way to make sure is to keep them in separate rooms or kennels my boy stops eating and becomes love sick.. and giving the opportunity they will get to her FAST.. so PLEASE be extra vigilant if you don't want that gir pregnant every season. the best way to prevent this would be to spay and neuter them. Best of luck, Carmen in nj |
Hi and welcome. As I read your first post my first thought was that you needed to stay with mom and slightly confine her so that she would stay & nurse her pups. I see someone has offered that advice already and other good advice too. All I have left to offer is coming from your other comment about it being a big litter. Are you making sure that mama is getting PLENTY to eat to keep up with the demand the puppies are putting on her body? Maybe she is feeling drained and needs more food and/or calcium supplements. Good luck with your babies; hope they all thrive. |
Thank You I am have added extra food to her diet but maybe its not enough ,I have made her some chicken & rice so will give her more food ,6 babies is alot for sure. I appericate everyones help here! I let myself panick when she stopped caring for then, in alot of ways I dont blame her cause this happened way too soon for her (and me!) I dont want to breed her to death or have a ill dog. I love my yorkies just want them to have healthy puppies. Thanks again. Hugs Ann |
