new puppies Hi - I am in need of a little advice. We have a new litter and I need to find out what are the things that we need to do for them and when. Such as introducing food, paper training, shots, etc. Thanks in advance. Tiara |
Congrats on the new litter! I give {vet does} first set of shots at 8 1/2-9weeks old, I take stool samples with, no worms, no deworming. I usually let my puppies start lapping ground up hard puppy food mixed with goats milk and equal parts water at 3 1/2 weeks. Paper training I start at about 5 weeks, not that they want too by no means!LOL:D Can't wait to see pics! |
Now that I have said that.....Is there a reason as to why you have just begun to find out this information? |

I don't know your situation or if you bred your girl intentially. But, in efforts to do the best for this litter you need to prepare yourself for a busy, busy time. My advice is that you make sure their mother is having all her needs met first. That is your first line of defense in keeping these puppies healthy. Make sure she is being fed a minimal of 5 meals a day og good quaility food. For the first 8 weeks of a puppies life all they need is mother. But, you need to weigh them daily. Make sure mother is keeping them cleaned, this is including diapering. Pups should be taken to the vet (since I assume that you aren't versed in how to doc tails and/or remove dew claws) to have the vet perform this task....this should be between 3 and 5 days. Lots of info out on the web. |
thank you... so we are doing great so far... we have 2 new babies and they are 3 1/2 weeks now. Mom and pups are all great. I have placed a towel ouside of the crate as the pups have started wandering out to pee and poop - mom of course is cleaning them well and anything they might "drop". So the next thing is to start mixing them food. Thank you! Quote:

We have been researching all of this on the web - I just wanted to cover all of my bases. Quote:

Hi - we have 2 new babies and they are 3 1/2 weeks now. Mom is doing great and eating several times a day. She is feeding and cleaning the babies well - I could use a little more information on "diapering". We don't agree with docking so we decided not to dock their tails -- but I do need a more information on removing their dew claws - obviously I didn't do this - is it a problem? Is it too late? Is there something else I need to do? Tiara Quote:

Removing dew claws now is a little more difficult than at 2-5 days when they can just be snipped. I would ask your vet for advice on the matter.:) |
